[IRC Mafia] Know your Phallaroots :: Join #mafia and play along!

IRC Mafia

What?

The Mafia party game.

This is the game that Phalla is based upon. Mafia and Phalla are different beasts however, but if you love one you'll likely enjoy the other.

Where?

Played real-time using IRC (the original webchat) on the SlashNET servers.

#mafia on irc.slashnet.org

When?

Looks like we may do this weekly, roughly. See further down the OP for scheduled sessions.

For people who don't have a feel for how these run, games last anywhere from ten minutes to half an hour typically. If you can't make it right at showtime it's no problem at all, you can hop in when the next game starts or sit out for one and take a break etc.

How?

Install an IRC client such as mIRC or one built-in with many multi-IM programs.

There is also a webclient for those who are horrible with this kind of stuff. :^: Just click the link and give it your name and you'll be in.

Why?

Because it's fun and real-time games have a dynamic that Phalla just doesn't capture.

Also because shenanigans abound:
With the second mafia dead, his third partner thought all was lost. "Well, it was a good run, i guess. Sorta got screwed by specials though."

He put the gun to his mouth, and pulled the hammer. *click*

"NO!" came the resounding yell, as INFIDEL ran into the pavilion. "MY BULLETTTTTTTTT!"

*BLAM*

The mafia didnt know what happened. One minute he was trying to commit suicide, and the next... Infidel managed to wedge himself between the gun and his own mouth. Was he... was he trying to...

to kiss him?

Created this thread so we don't clog up the Phalla signup list which is not the place for this.

Awesome that this may become a regular thing, from what I was around for last night it seemed like a rousing success.

Also very happy to see that the next session is on the weekend.

Counting the smaller five man games at the end of the night we played roughly a dozen games last evening.

Those small games definitely count, dammit. They were my time to shine.

Anyway, I really liked the IRC games. I'd love to see more weeknight sessions -- as I tend to spend the weekends outside. Ideally.

Yeah, we'll likely mix it up a good bit. We just need to hook the GMT folks first and then they'll stay up till the wee hours because they're addicted. mwuahahahaha

Ironically Saturday is the night where I always end up being around until 3-4 AM because of my Sunday schedule being so laid back.

But doing it on weekdays is a worthy sacrifice for hot IRC action.

It might be worth it to note in the OP that showing up on time is not mandatory, since we played for many hours and new games start fairly often.

Aaaaand it looks like this has been covered already. One of these days I'll learn to read.

Grrrr. It's OK though, you just started the trend. I'm a horrible baddie on IRC it appears... Not that great of a goodie either :P.

And I should be able to make it this Saturrday for some amount of time, dunno when or how long though. I'll figure it out then!

Oh man. Infidel is like a genie in more ways than one, clearly.

Like how my wish for IRC mafia to be on a weekend is granted... except it's 7am for me. Always with the twisting of words! :P

Good thing I can be late.

Edit: Don't get me wrong, I don't mind. I just find it hilarious.

This one was with GMT in mind so you'll have to tough it out or wait for one that lines up better hehe.

Oh no, it's cool. As far as I know, only warban and I are GMT+10/12, so I understand that you should cater to the larger number of players who are around GMT, and GMT-7.

It's only a minor inconvenience - I'll just have to set my alarm is all.

    Reminder

Next Session is tomorrow at 2pm CDT. Be there!

And I'm going to post the logs from Tuesday tonight when I get home and have access to them. Should I just dump the whole thing for people to sift through what they want? Maybe I should do that but also grab the narrations from the Death Note and Circus games since those ones had some effort put into them and may be a good read pulled from the hours of chat.

Depends on the people and format (anywhere from no-host to narration-heavy), typically ten minutes to half an hour or so.

Now, is it absolutely forbidden to come and hang out at one of these and just watch for a bit, to get a feel?

Cause I'd love to do that at first. Unfortunately, I'm not around tomorrow in the afternoon, but maybe I'll check the channel tomorrow night when I get home from my day from hell.

No, silly, you can come and watch as many as you want. You can join any game you want, and take breaks any time you want (not in the middle of a game though, obviously :P). We are cool like that!
