Street Fighter IV: Tatsu-maki-senpukyaku! (d, db, b+k)
As an in-your-face for announcing he beat me last night, I'd like to officially state that I just beat Arde in two matches.
They were close though!
Good games, man - I was getting pretty predictable with my tactics since I didn't bother to mix em up and you baited and countered it very well.
Using cross up jumping fierce and far s.HK has somehow made me re-learn Fuerte tactics again since those moves are just so good.
I was surprised at how patient you are with the match - you made me the one to go aggro on you and I suffered for that.
Yeah, I realized playing so many horseshit players in G2 for the last few weeks has made me far too aggressive. I've been getting punished for it, so that's something I've been working on today.
Nice set of games, Shady. Tip for playing Gouken: though. Every once in a while, you want to throw a fireball upwards just to keep your opponent guessing. It will punish people who try to avoid ground fireballs by jumping.
Heh, thanks for the games. I'm still newbish at Gouken, I just picked him up recently.
Today was payday, so I walked into one of the local GameStops when what should I see but a brand new arcade fightstick for the 360.
...yeah, I picked it up.
Although I'm kind of regretting it, because now I have to practice exclusively with it and so I won't be good with either the stick or the pad for a while. Still, it's nice to have it. Just sitting there. All pretty.
Hells yeah, my new sanwa stick and buttons came in the mail today! The installation was a breeze. Only thing that caused me trouble was that the stick I ordered didn't come with the metal mounting plate and I busted one of the screws getting the one off my madcatz stick.
For anyone who is thinking of upgrading their parts, even for a novice like me it was worth it. I was kind of iffy at first because most people just said the sanwa parts feel 'better'. From my point of view I'll just clarify that a bit. First of all the sanwa buttons feel much springier and less mushy than the stock ones. It's not a night and day difference but it is definitely a difference, and for $2 a pop on excellentcom they are worth it.
The stick is a vast improvement in a number of ways. First of all it doesn't suffer from the washer problem that madcatz sticks do. The washer on mine anyway seems to be glued down and it's not going anywhere. Second is the little tabs for the restrictor plate. The ones on the madcatz stick are to put it bluntly, a colossal pain in the ass. If you're trying to swap out the square gate on your madcatz stick, chances are you will hurt your fingers and damage the tabs like I did.
The last big difference is in the microswitches. From day 1 mine made funny noises and just didn't feel quite right. The sanwa switches are super responsive and have a satisfying click to them. Awesome stuff but now I can't blame my crappiness on the controller.
I think... maybe I shouldn't touch my fight stick until I can afford to replace the parts with good ones.
It's amazing how some things are easier, like Cammy's 2149+k, but it's REALLY hard to pull off double fireball motions.
might as well play and get used to it.
if you got one from a recent batch, they actually re-designed a few things to help keep problems down. (if you're talking about the SE stick)
also, if you're still on the square gate, it'll take a bit to get used to those quarter circles... but in the end, its worth it... and the main thing i love about square gates is that it unlocked the glorious world of charge characters up to me.

you can blame it on being a "new controller to you" though ^_^

Nope, it's the Arcade Fight Stick, the $80 one. From what I've read, it's a great box but not a great stick unless you replace the MadCatz components with Sanwa stuff.

I have two SE sticks (one for each system) and I've only had to replace the buttons. The sticks themselves have been fine. I'd recommend getting these from ArcadeShock. I've ordered from them twice and both times they had really, really quick shipping.
I don't think they don't sell replacement sticks though, so you're out of luck there. They seem to be pretty hard to find as a whole anyway.
Yeah the only way to beat any decent Cammy is to turtle and punish
This is patently untrue. It's just the best and easiest way.
I do have a lot of respect for somebody who can shut down my offense without resorting to hiding in their shell. Almost every character can do it, too, it's just easier to be a turtle.
Man, I love being a TURTLE!!!!
*cues the music*
"T-u-r-t-l-e power..."
And now I need to find a song that trumps "Turtle Power"....thanks.
Man, I haven't played champ mode in a week and a half and now there's a ton of not so great people walking around with really High GP. I made it to the final on my first attempt, I would have won it for like 59,000cp but I blew it

right... SE is the standard edition, (TE being tournament edition) i guess its just im used to calling it.
and what i said applies to yours. if you have a newer one (from a recent batch) then it should be good to go (they claim to have fixed the major issues with it)
and yeah, sawna buttons and a sanwa joystick is tops!

Having just gotten my Sanwas in, the stick made a big difference, I'm now considering doing some more qcf based characters as it just feels better somehow. It was really hard to tell when I was hitting the microswitches on the stock SE stick, but the Sanwa is a biiiiiig difference. My inability to consistently double fireball motion was irritating me and the reason I pretty much dropped all qcfs like a bad habit, but I think I might get back into it.
I still want to try an octogate, but definitely less complaints about the square now.
Isn't it easy to replace parts in an SE stick, too? No soldering required?
Very easy. It's all quick connects (although quick is an exaggeration, some of those bastards are really stuck on there) and the stick uses a harness. I think it took me about 30 minutes to swap in a new stick and six new buttons, but I'd say a good 10 of it was just me getting the stupid mounting plate off the stock stick (those screws are super in there). The rest of it was me gently working the quick connects off the stock buttons, and jamming the Sanwas in there (snap in also a bit too easy sounding, had to really force some in.)
God help me, my two favorite characters in this game are Honda and Dan. I know I am horrible enough that tier lists and all don't really have an effect on gameplay, but I can't imagine I am doing myself any favors.
Honda isn't as much of a liability as Dan, but even Dan has some relatively safe moves and it's so unexpected when you meet a good one that he can do some serious damage.
I am so fucking disappointed in myself right now. I was close to winning my first G2 championship AND my first replay. There was 60000+ CP at stake in the final match, I beat a lot of good players to get there. I came back from one down and a sliver of health in the second round vs. 50% to win, and then came back against a Ryu in the semi-finals from one round down in 3 very close rounds. I won the final round when we were both at a sliver left. I came out of nowhere with a spinning back fist. He was surprised, blocked and I chipped on to the win. Then I get to the final match against a 14000+ GP Akuma. I'm good against Akuma but a bit apprehensive about the huge GP total. But I'm doing well, I have him down to a sliver with 50% of my health remaining in the first round...........
and I get Cannon spike happy in an effort to chip him out. I didn't work. He took me out without even a super or ultra. It was embarrassing. I've gotten good at not letting myself getting punished for throwing out too many cannon spikes. The next round was more evenly fought, we were about even, me ahead a little bit when I tried to jump in and got caught in an ultra. My first G2 championship win down the drain and probably an embarrassing replay posted to boot.
Don't worry, Hbox. Even if you never lose again, you'll be able to feel the glory of at least twelve thousand G2 tournament wins before you get to experience another bracket.
Well, so far in G-1 I've gone 1-3, but fought the exact same Rufus for three first-round matches. First-round losses lose you 5 points, and second-round losses gain you 10 points, so I've come out even there so far. Waiting for additional matches took too long, so playing Free bracket for now.
Fighting against Abel how the fuck do you get out of his 3 hit combo roll? Got to love blocking and then getting trapped into a combo, what is the trick? Never block, focus attack or use a ball that will get blocked? Or slide, or hop. You have to love when you are about to do a rainbow roll but Ryu throws his ultra and the game auto inputs your kick after the ultra comes out and Ryu gets a free win. Love this game. I guess if Ryu has an ultra up I should never throw out a ball.
How do replays work? I wish I could have saved that last game. I got stunned and had a sliver of health and came back to win.
Well that sucks I managed to thrash a 13000 GP Chun in the semis, and beat a boring Ryu in the final. Not gonna be able to replace that replay any time soon

It's a mix-up and it's really easy to deal with.
The first hit is always high. The second and third hits can be either high or low, but if he's going low you have several frames to see him starting to hunch down. Always block high unless you see him lunging.

Can't you interrupt the normal version if you throw out a quick jab after you block the first hit?
Is it suppose to be possible for blanka to beat a turtling Balrog? I could not even touch that guy at all. He can punish block balls and can ultra off my ultra so I was all out of options.

Not with Blanka I know I always mash jab to get out a lightning and neither works.
There are just no options for me it seems against balrog once he is close. He can shut me down with jabs and then cross me up over my AA ball and land with a headbut I use electricity or throw if I am blocking.

Blanka is one of 'Rog's easier match-ups. Just don't throw Blanka balls out because he can punish them really easily. Your best shot is getting in his face with cross-ups and throws since 'Rog really excels from a slight distance – not when he has a green man buzzing around him like a fly.
I just fought the guy again and I did alright with cross ups but I just learned that you cant really focus attack him since I thought I had it off but he came in with a slide jab and then jabed me after the move hit.
So, I'm guessing most of the good players moved on to G1 or nearing it. I'm still learning Honda and I figured a Sagat with 9000 GP would know how to zone me the hell out with tiger shots and forward or standing roundhouse, but the dude kept shooting FB's when I'm in range for any of my pokes or j.fp, s.jab->f.headbutt. I mean, I shouldn't have any business crushing someone with all the tools to destroy my character.

Hey, I could attempt to teach him how to play better!
I probably wouldn't because i'm a bit of a dick and he's like 12, but I could!
