A friend of mine gave me a game boy micro the other day rather out of the blue, and the problem is having never owned a GBA I don't know which games to hunt for. So I figured I'd ask the PA community.
What are some must own GBA games?
Or,
Are there any ones that you thought were special for some reason or another?
I'd like to affirm that Fire Pro (1 and 2) and Astro Boy are AWESOME and ask that you check out DBZ: Supersonic Warriors and Dragonball Advanced Adventure.
Chu Chu Rocket GBA isn't too bad, either!

Riviera: The Promised Land
DemiKids: Dark Version
River City Ransom Advance
Loved messing with that game. I missed the multiplayer but I've played a lot less GBA multiplayer ever since the DS came out (but that Kunio Dodgeball game has some really fun download play).
Advance Wars 2 (best in series, you can skip the first)
Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (best in series, you can skip the others)
Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga
Warioware: Mega Micro Game$ (skip twisted)
Metroid Fusion (better than Zero Mission)
Each of the above games is required. There are also many other great games on the platform, but these are the ones you're really missing out by not having played.
do NOT, under ANY circumstances, buy Sigma Star Saga.
it is Not Awesome. it looks Awesome, but it is Not.
Damn, you keep being spot on. I was so thrilled by the concept of it and picked it up for like $9.99 new (not a surprise looking back) and was still VERY disappointed.
Riviera is included on the Slash Signal, so I'm going to add in Yggdra Union: We'll Never Fight Alone with it's wacky turn based card strategy.
If you got a psp, I'd grab the better psp version. (Yggdra Union)
I'll second the Castlevanias and Metriods, those were my favorite GBA games. (didn't really like Circle of the Moon though)
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

yeah, the concept was interesting, but if you're going to replace the random encounters in rpgs with shmup levels, they need to be really awesome shmup levels.
Mega Man Zero (I still think it's the best Mega Man game)
Chu Chu Rocket (Fun puzzler)
Sonic Battle (Sonic brawler)
Classic NES Series: Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda, Metroid (Classic, must experience titles)
I love wayforward (they made Duck Amuck!) and I already praised the concept but the gameplay was mind-numbing
Agreed, there was no way I could soldier onward with that one.
I have two copies of the Guilty Gear X game, it's fun in multiplayer but the AI is dumb as dirt so it might not be the best solo experience. The music is rendered poorly (and kinda irritating sound) plus the graphics take an expected hit but it's still a good fighter (had fun trying to recreate other characters with the color edit, too).
But I'd LOVE to have multiple copies of the KOF or Street Fighter games, I just put it off because I can't find them at Gamestop/somewhere cheap. But if they end up making DS versions of either franchise then I'd be content with those (or Fire Pro).
warioware games are a must
megaman zero series is pretty good (first one is kinda meh, everything after though is great)
shining soul 2 is fun if you like simple little dungeon crawlers like diablo or whatever
import rhythm heaven

TMNT
I heard the versions for other consoles sucked, but the GBA version of this was a fantastic beat-em-up worthy of Turtles in Time and the other classic Ninja Turtle games.
The Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation games are pretty great if you like giant robots and strategy RPGs. The combat graphics are pretty great for a GBA advance game too, my only issue was it gets slightly tedious dealing with endless generic NPC mechs later on in the game. Though it has Atlus syndrome so good luck actually finding a copy.
The GBA catalog is ridiculous, and used games at GS that aren't Pokemon are dirt cheap. Anytime I travel I make a note to try out any GameStop I see and look in that case for such hits as Ninja 5-0, Doom/Doom II, Rebelstar, Drill Dozer, Warioware Twisted or whatever the hell else they released for that glorious handheld.
Posts
Legend of Zeldas
Final Fantasy 6 (Until its enevitable remake)
Final Fantasy Tactics
Castlevania
etc
Fire Emblem
Pokemon
Steam
XBOX
Metroid Zero Mission is exactly how remakes should be done.
Gunstar Super Heroes
Fire Pro Wrestling Advance
Seconded. I just started replaying Minish Cap the other day. That and four swords are damn good.
Chu Chu Rocket GBA isn't too bad, either!
DemiKids: Dark Version
River City Ransom Advance
Also, both Fire Emblems.
(Please do not gift. My game bank is already full.)
The original Sonic Advance & Sonic Advance 3 are both okay, but they really nailed it with SA2.

I love my GBA, and I have found a ton of stuff nobody would think to recommend that is awesome.
Gekido Advance is another one, if you like brawlers.
Shit, I forgot Final Fight One
I know I'm listing a lot of remakes, but sometimes adding "portable" to the front of just about anything makes it that much more rad.

Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....

they were not.
a guy who posts here had a hand in developing it if I'm not mistaken
Super Street Fighter II: Turbo Revival
Long name, tons of fun. It had a permanent spot in my DS.
Chu Chu Rocket (Fun puzzler)
Sonic Battle (Sonic brawler)
Classic NES Series: Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda, Metroid (Classic, must experience titles)
so yeah, now that the classic nes series is not 20 bucks a game anymore, those are definitely good ones to pick up
the gba version of alpha III was pretty good too
as was King Of Fighters EX Neoblood
there's a guilty gear game on the system too but I've never played it
Also, WayForward(Contra 4) did it.

All the DS ones are better.
Anyway:
Yoshi's Island is the best platformer on the system
Minish Cap is possibly the best game
Get them.

I had to force myself to finish it the first time around.
