Hello everyone and welcome to my first ever LP:
About Dark Sector:
Dark Sector is a third-person shooter video game for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows developed by Digital Extremes. The game was released on March 25, 2008, in North America, March 27, 2008, in Japan and April 4, 2008, in Europe.[2]
Set in the crumbling infrastructure of a fictional Soviet-bloc country in the near future, the game features both single and multi-player action, with players working their way through a world where biological weapons are a hellish nightmare, let loose on an unsuspecting populace.
The game's main character is a man named Hayden Tenno (voiced by Michael Rosenbaum of Smallville fame), a morally ambivalent clean-up man employed by the CIA. He suffers from a real-life disease called congenital analgia that does not allow him to feel pain. On a mission in a fictional former eastern bloc nation, he is exposed to a biological compound which mutates him, dramatically changing his right arm, and giving him the ability to grow a three-bladed throwable weapon called a glaive at will. The glaive is a part of his body, can be used to generate light, and can be controlled remotely by the player.
Dark Sector borrows a lot from Resident Evil 4 and even has similarities to Dead Space (especially the shooting/melee animations will be quite recognizable for the DS veterans) and while it may have a few bugs and not unbelievably high production values, the game is a lot of fun to play and (I hope) watch.
I first tried this game on the 360 shortly after it was released, but didn't get further in than the second chapter, so this is basically a blind run for me. Since I really liked what I played, I chose this to be my first ever LP and I'm really looking forward to this.
Please note that I am still new at the whole LP business, apart from small cameos in Helloween's fantastic LPs I've never done anything like this.
Without further talk, here we go:
Set 01 - It's all Black & White!(I'm sorry about the game volume being so loud and my mic so quiet, this has been adressed and in further releases all shall be fine.)
Set 02 - Maybe I can ride him?
Set 03 - Cthulhu is coming?
Set 04 - Shotgun Edition
Set 05 - I'm on a boat!
Set 06 - Oh boy!
Set 07 - The Invisible Man
Set 08 - Minigun Edition
Set 09 - The end

God damn it never got old chopping people apart with that glaive.
Seriously. Great start keep it up
Youtube Channel!
It is disappointing though that they ditched the original concept of a sci-fi Metal Gear ninja in space for the Gears of War clone it ended up with.
I will follow this LP like crazy, because I tried the demo for PS3 and absolutely did not understand the game, yet I am interested in seeing what everybody enjoyed about it (Not saying I have enough to base a judgement on, nor am I calling the game bad based on the demo, I was simply terrible at it.). Maybe it was poor selection for a demo, or maybe I just didn't give it enough of a chance. If I can find it on the cheap, I'll pick it up for myself if just to have it and try again, as it looks fine here.
But for now, I'll watch and enjoy.
Late Edit: Also, "Oh no, Telekinesis! My one weakness!" :^:
This reminds me that I want to do one of these for tomb raider legend at some point.
Klyka, I enjoyed your commentary but I think you might find it easier to be fluid if you add the audio commentary after you record the gameplay, as this is a blind run so thinking about amusing stuff to say and playing at the same time can be tricky!
I love this fucking game. In fact, I started replaying this not 5 days ago after someone mentioned it in another thread. Dark Sector on Brutal is so much more fun than Gears on Insane. Not as difficult, but twice as challenging. Oh, and the audio work in this game is fantastic.
It did need more stealth, though.
All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.
-Hayden is not Marcus Fenix. He's sneaky, he's wiry, and he doesn't take a lot of punishment. Enemies are mean, and they're going to do nasty things to you if you aren't mobile. Stay behind cover, but never let yourself get pinned down.
-Melee is not a one hit kill, or a two hit kill. You can wail on a guy for a while, and more than likely he's going to stand there while his friends flank and shoot the fuck out of you. You do have a one hit kill called a finisher. Get behind a guy and hit the melee key when you see the tooltip pop up. You can also do a finisher by doing anything that makes an enemy glow red (a couple melee hits, a glaive throw, certain weapon shots), then hitting melee. This is basically the "be a badass" button. You'll kill the dude somehow, including (but not limited to) snapping his neck, slitting his throat, bashing the glaive into his skull, cutting his arm off and beating him with said arm, and gutting him like a fish before decapitating him. It also functions like an obliteration technique (Ninja Gaiden 2) in that you're invincible while the animation plays. Sometimes, your best tactic is to stun a guy, then get behind him and do a finisher. You'll be meeting some new enemies pretty soon, and they are going to rape you if you aren't creative.
-You can shoot projectiles out of the air. This includes grenades. A grenade can, and will, hurt the guy that threw it. There's an achievement for shooting projectiles, too. GFWL does achievements, right?
-The glaive is your flashlight. As such, you only have a light when you have the glaive out. It also means your light source leaves you when you throw it. That's not necessarily a disadvantage, because you can use the glaive to scout around areas with aftertouch.
-The glaive does damage while returning to your hand. This is open to abuse.
-Weapon upgrades are everywhere, and sometimes they're hidden in some devious places. It does good to give most areas a second look. They also can't be pulled out of a weapon once they're applied. Weapons are expensive, so you may not really want to just throw upgrades in when you find them. You also won't be able to buy every weapon. Not even close. Spend carefully. In my current playthrough, I didn't buy a single weapon until chapter six (I think), when the revolver turns up.
-The controls are kind of touchy. I'm used to playing on the 360, and I kind of have to overcompensate for dodging to make sure I don't roll into an enemy or something. No idea how that's going to play out on a keyboard. If you just tap the button once to switch between cover, you usually won't stick to it. It's generally better to double tap the button to make sure you roll, then stick. Single tap will generally get you out of cover.
-No subtitles outside of cutscenes. Ever.
All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.
I'd rather have 'em there.
The single player is a very underrated game. IMO, the game that Resident Evil 5 could have and should've been.
The multiplayer is garbage, and the fact that the same company is doing Bioshock 2's online play has doused my hopes for fun, engaging Splicer vs. Splicer deathmatch sessions.
"Hey, it's Yankee Doodle! He's come to town!" Every time I go into the black market, I brace myself for the "Come in, don't just stand there!" that never comes. No idea why.
All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.
If all goes well I'll record and upload Set 02 tonight, this time with improved audio.
I will however keep recording my commentary live during gameplay, I just think otherwise it would be a bit like cheating. Also, I went to the "Helloween LP school of excellence" and was taught to strictly do it live.
Thanks for watching guys
sign my boobies klyka
I need to check up on those german ninjas, though. Never heard about those
Sigh
Me too! Me too! Sign me too!
Great start. Can't wait for more. Good luck Klyka!

"yeah, the dude from 20 years ago? still does not know how to drive his boat. he's still out there."
incontrovertible proof that klyka is a man that is neither shaken nor stirred
Some more points of interest, trying not to spoil your virgin run too much:
-You don't have to worry about weapons exploding. After 30 seconds or so, they just fizzle out, then Hayden will kind of frown and drop it casually. The screen also flashes briefly when this happens, which accounts for a flash that confused you.
-The crosshair jumping around is you getting shot. Every time you get hit, the screen will jerk around a bit, just like Gears. Hayden does not do well in open fire. At all.
-You know how you noticed a grenade that didn't blow up? It did. It's just not a normal grenade. Did you notice a pssssst sound in the background? The hazmat guys throw Enferon grenades instead of regular ones. Enferon is a thick brown gas that's poisonous to Infected. If you get exposed to Enferon, your vision will get completely fucked (kind of like heat vision) and your health will stop regenerating until you get away and let it wear off. Like I said before, enemies are mean in Dark Sector. They will use Enferon liberally to cut you off from areas of cover.
-Those zombie type infected are awesome. Their blood is oil or some shit. Under certain circumstances, they will explode. They are also vulnerable to finishers from behind like any other enemy. The animation for that is great and the sound will make you wince. They do not have to turn red before you can do a finisher that way (when they're red all melee will be a finisher). They also don't have to be unaware.
-Power throws will always tear a human enemy apart in a single hit, and you only have to nick an appendage to rip it off. The glaive also headshots, so a normal throw will decapitate and instant kill if you smack a guy in the face.
-You can power throw without pulling the crosshair up. Learn it. Love it. It may be harder than the console versions because you can't feel the timing of the rumble, but then again you have it super easy on the headshots because of the mouse. Speaking of, I love headshots in this game. They're so... brutal.
-Energy leech is amazing. Use it all the time. It may not always make things die any faster, but it is prettier. In a violent and murderous kind of way. It also effects melee hits.
-Seriously, those weapon upgrades are everywhere. Seriously.
Anyway, this is great so far. Keep it up.
All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.
"Oooh, goodies!"
Oh the aftertouch, I can smell ittttttt
They are sooo rude sneaking up behind you like that.

I liked how Klyka was all "And that's it for this edition. See you next *throws glaive* time, guys. I had a lot of fun."
Calm in times of chaos.

Still any wishes for the volume? Game/voice too loud/quiet?

Agree; I was actually surprised that you got it corrected so well after just one video. Sound levels are fine, keep it up
