Laptop Issues

SvenSven Registered User regular
A friend has given me his old Everex laptop after it has stopped working for him. The problem with the laptop is that the screen is not turning on when you boot it. He claims this problem started after "Messing around in Bios and hitting something, then having it black out on me." Iv tried hooking it up to an external monitor, but its not showing anything there.

The Laptop is a Everex Stepnote Model NM3500W

Any ideas as to whats wrong?

Is it running off the battery or plugged in? Do any of the lights come on? You might try unplugging it and removing the battery for 20 mins or so...

Can you get it to make beeping sounds mashing the keyboard? Do you hear, say, the Windows startup sound?

If no sound and it has two sticks of RAM, try booting with just one stick, each in turn.

If he was messing around in the bios and did something could you not try to reset the bios, removing the battery and maybe changing a jumper. I'm not familar with the laptop but I would assume it can't be that different from a pc.
