However, I know nothing about bicycles! I know they have wheels and are mostly ridden by assholes who hate cars, BUT I think I can be a cool bike rider person!
I want something I can ride around LA with and not die or have fall apart.
What makes a good bicycle? What should I look for? Good brands? Bad brands? Cool stuff?

oh, sure, i can drive like a champ, the state would just rather i not for safety and organization reasons
living in new york wouldn't it make sense for me to not learn how to drive
like most people i know
but it would make even less sense that you don't know how to ride a bike
Man, I do not get license requirements in other places.
In SoDak, it was like "You're 14? Here, drive with this learner's permit for two weeks, then we'll give you your restricted. You can't drive after 8:00 until you're 16, though."
Then I hear about anywhere else and it's like "Guys, I'm so excited! I just turned 25, so now I have a restricted license! This is so much better than that learner's permit I've had since I turned 22. I can't wait for it to turn into a real, normal license in seven years!"
