Let's talk about Wine, because Beer is for the proles.

So recently I've taken an interest in wine.

I spend a bit of time reading about wine as it's the only alcoholic drink I actually enjoy drinking. Beer and spirits make me sick to the stomach. Red wine is my preference - I haven't drunk a white wine for a very long time. Maybe I should drink it more often?

I'm currently sipping on an Argentinian Malbec. It's quite nice, but it's not playing very well with my pasta.
Anyone care to recommend a wine that goes well with pasta?

Here's a fantastic website that gives a great overview about wine, glasses, types of wine, etc etc.

Do you like wine? Let's talk about it.

    man dubs.

    90 minutes with no response?

that's gotta be some se++ record.

In regards to the topic, I appreciate wine, but don't really like to drink it.

also wine should be paired with the pasta sauce. Is it tomato based? Meaty? creamy? Fish? Pork?

    I'm sure Stale would post.

I remember the look in his eye when the Sommelier was talking to us at the fancy dinner at PAX last year.

Man Sommelier is a fun word to say.

Wine is complicated. And unless you know a lot, there'll always be some other prick hanging around justw aiting to tell you how you're wrong and don't know anything.

    depends on the beer

    it kind of is.

Or at least that's the way every beer in history has marketed itself

A compromise: some beer is for proles.

Not the beer I drink though.

On topic: I enjoy wine but I'm pretty much a filthy pleb when it comes to wine knowledge, like if I'm at a restaurant I just go with whatever someone orders.

    that's pretty stupid

Beer can be a very complex drink and goes better with some foods than wine

If fancy beer is like a gourmet sandwich, that would mean that cheap wine is a supermarket frozen microwave filet mignon

If you take the microwave dinner over the gourmet sandwich, then you're a fool

    Sometimes corks smell good!

I like wine, but I hardly know a thing about it. I like red, and I generally go for pinot noir, if I have the choice.

What's the difference between smelling the cork and smelling the wine in your glass? Why's one lame and one isn't?

    I'll smell whatever I want.

Tomato based, yeah. That tomato pasta sauce I had earlier made that wine taste really acidic in my mouth.

I want to give this particular wine a try. I might buy one on Friday.

Ah, wine - there's a restaurant in Cambridge that has a bottle that's under a fiver.

It has white sediment in the bottom. Could be nitrates, we're not sure. Either way, you have to strain the last glass.

This alone should tell you that I'm not an expert when it comes to wine.

we actually make some fantastic reds

and there is a pretty huge wine culture here.

Why just today I was in a liquor store buying a bottle of single malt for may dad's birthday and there was a staggering section that I'll call "expensive wines"

20 year old french vintages in wooden boxes, like $500 a bottle.

No, wine in bags is a sign of the future. Same with wine and champagne with screw tops. Only the best.

    oh neat!

I like wine a lot. it's super good with the right meal. I suppose I've developed the taste for it early but whateva

freshmen year of college, people would always give me a goofy look because i'd be walking around my roommates' keggers drinking straight from a bottle of moderately priced cabernet sauvignon.

oh and girls want to talk to you about it.

I like strong, heady, red wines. I'm not big on white wine and I pretty much refuse most beer, though a good, super-hoppy lager or a particularly good beer once in awhile is okay.

I like to try my parents fancy wine every once in awhile just to keep myself aware, per se, of the many varieties of decent wine. Plus, I think it's a lot nicer to drink wine with a fancy meal then beer, but that's just me.
