Give me cheap wifi, or give me death!

I need to get a wifi router for temporary use (moved for less than a year, forgot my router, really can't get it shipped). I'll be using is only for internet browsing and printing, no gaming.

Are either of those better or worse for me to get?

I'd grab one of the refurb Netgears.

    I'd buy... none of them.

Offhand, the DIR-615 (dlink) is pretty good right now on the 'cheap' end of routers. Go much cheaper and you end up with stuff that drops wifi intermittently / has issues with other routers causing interference.

From your list I would suggest the D-Link.

    Something to consider:

This can be flashed with D-Link or Linux firmware.

Try and go to a flea market or a community yard sale this weekend. Last week I was able to pick up two Linksys WRT54G's for $10 ea. Throw DD-WRT on there and you have the best router you can get IMO. Just make sure its not a V.5 or V.6 those are a pain to get working with DD-WRT

DD-WRT adds some nifty features but it is not a magic spell that you can cast to buff your Aged Router of Intermittent Connectivity into the obelisk from 2001: a space odyssey.

I can't speak for others, but I've only found an improvement in stability when switching to DD-WRT and that's mainly why I keep it.

Those are some strange choices there, Improvolone.. I would probably look for one of the DIRs or the WRT54gs used - I have a WRT54g2 that I would recommend if you're not going to use it for gaming.

Well, I chose those because they came up as the cheapest on Newegg.

Routers are all dirt cheap as far as hardware. Basically the only difference is what software tells them how to work, and how well that software manages to do it's job.

So I really have to disagree with you. DD-WRT is some slick shit and basically does turn crappy routers into amazing ones. Granted, I've never watched one spark the fire of sentience in a primate --but I have no primates on hand with which to test the router vs obelisk matchup.

I concur. Get some dd-wrtable shiz for dirt cheap and sex it up. I hear good things about tomato too, but it's less supported.
