Alright, I read this book a few years back so it was probably on the lower end of the lexile range. I don't remember that much about the book so I'll be pretty surprised if any one knows it from the information I provide.
What I do remember is that it starts off with a group of friends being trained in there homeland to be awesome archers and what not and soon they are thrown into the real world where a war is going on. I believe they are of a different race that is shorter than humans. They are chased soon after leaving their home (which is protected by a thorn barrier I believe) by some type of hound beasts and they manage to kill them, however one of the friend is wounded and soon dies.
Then my memory jumps further in the book where the friends are in a castle that is under siege by all the forces of evil and what not. They amaze every one with their archery skills and spend all their free time fletching arrows. The leaders of the good guys soon decide to lead a charge to break the siege and it ends up with a duel with some of the good leaders dying but I think they are ultimately successful.
I think the book ends with them about to go search for something that has just been stolen by the bad guys. It is part of a series and it would be really great if someone could help me out cause this has been bugging me for a few months now. Sorry that my memory is so crappy and if something doesn't fit a few of the things still post it because I could have remembered wrong.
Yeah... he's a total Tolkien hack, but he's good at it.
If you liked the Iron Tower series, you should read Eye of the Hunter. It's probably his best book.

'Fuck yeah, me too. What little kid ever pretended to be part of the lynch-mob?'

Yeah, it's pretty good if you're into that kind of thing. Very dark, very exciting.
Just don't read his one SF book, it's awful. Somehow doing the same settings he does well but adding a layer of VR on top makes it terrible.
