OK, I'm looking to get my wife an iPhone as a present. We're on Verizon. My 2 years is up, she has a year to go. We're on the same family plan.

What I'd like to do is get her an iPhone with a new AT&T contract. After she opens it, I move her number to that phone. I cancel my phone. Then I convert her contract to my number, and have Verizon put my phone on her contract. End result: Wife gets new phone with new number, I get my old phone and number, I can't upgrade til next year, I pay no termination fees.

Can anyone tell me if I'm living in a fantasy land or if this is an option? Thanks.

in order for them to switch her number to att she'd have to cancel her contract which would require early termination fees. you may be able to get them to agree to switch your number to her contract but since it doesn't look like both are in your name i highly doubt they will let you without her being aware of the switch. ultimately though this is something you are going to have to discuss with them as they take these things on a case by case basis

I think I know what you're thinking there, but I'm pretty sure it won't work. You're both going to get new numbers. Get the ATT contract with a new number for the wife. The with your Verizon contract, cancel your line. Have them put your phone on her number, then change that number. Then, when that contract is up you can go onto her ATT contract with the newish number you got from Verizon. You still have no termination fees, you just can't keep your current phone numbers.

I've been looking at switching myself, and if you move the phone number to a different carrier there's going to be a termination fee. You're probably better off waiting since Verizon is in talks to get Iphones too.
