Finding a good projector for television and gaming.
Well the thread title pretty much says it all but my friend is looking to pick up a projector to begin setting up a home theater system. Could anyone throw out suggestions in the 600-1200 range? Neither of us know anything about what makes a projector "good" but i'm hoping you guys can help.
Ah projectors, slowly but surely they are growing in popularity. The first thing you want to do is measure the room you'll be projecting in. Once you have that you'll know the throw distance that you'll need. Besides for that, searching for a projector is just like looking for a tv. Compare the contrast, resolution, ports ect with one another and read plenty of user reviews. Keep in mind that you'll be needing to buy a separate audio solution.
i have an infocus IN72 plugged up to my wii and 360.
used to have it plugged to a cable box. grabbed it 2 years ago for 600 with a 200 mail in. best investment ever.
Just make sure you're getting something with a good lumen output (1000-1500 lumens is best for an average home. less could work with a windowless room) and a good resolution.
Mine isn't HD but it sure looks preeeeetty

It's impossible for us to without a doubt prove the non-existence of God. We just have to take it on faith that he's imaginary..
Yeah all of the info about what is important and what isn't important when picking up one of these sons of guns would be greatly appreciated. I hear lumen output is like the number one thing. How important is the contrast?
The basic rule of thumb is, the higher the contrast the better the image. Go on over to newegg.com and start searching for projectors in your price range. They don't have the best selection but their search engine lets you compare everything in your price range. Once you found one that your happy with put the product name in google and you'll find the best price. Also, don't get fulled into thinking a better resolution means a better picture.
