Corianan turns his attention from the right hand of their foe to the battered Arch-Devil behind him...and immediately grasps him by the head with a titanic hand. The gesture is fleeting, but in the wake of his touch is left a brand that crackles with power, rejeuvenating Maelvictus' battered frame in the most brute force manner possible: By flooding him with the power of the Primordial elements, the sensation of being living lightning, pure energy. Maelvictus becomes a lightning rod, radiating this energy to all who would stand near him.

The death of a comrade averted, he slides his hand across the jagged edge of his axe, letting the blood of the Storm Lord flow free in offering to the spirits that gather about him like a thundercloud...and receives his answer almost immediately. The gale of a storm that surrounds him in answer to their enemy ignites, the very air becoming a swirling conflagration that is carried into the heart of the sapient storm. Did they truly believe thunder and lightning was all that swore allegiance to him? If so...they now knew better.

    Endurance Check: 1d20+25=36 Success

Minor Action: Rune of Mending (Destruction) on Maelvictus, allowing him to spend a healing surge and regain 4d6=14 HP. In addition, everyone gains a +6 power bonus to damage until EOMNT.

Standard Action: Rage of the Desert Wind on Godstorm (Right Hand) 1d20+33=39 Hit!

Rage of the Desert Wind Damage: 3d12+3d8+50=81

Brutal Re-Roll: 1d12=12 Best weapon feature? Best weapon feature

    Net Damage: 91

Only 12 of that is firmly Thunder. The rest is Thunder/Lightning/Fire and due to the Fire keyword should bypass any resistances. Oh also it's Blind now fuck you Godstorm!

The howling fury of a raging storm mere inches from his face leaves Skard as blinded as Spyre and Rathas before him. All that noise, however, makes for a perfect target as the Shifter snarls in fury, slamming his hammer down in a massive and equally sudden overhand arc.

The Godstorm Hand takes the full force of the smash, and though Skard cannot yet see, he and all those who stand with him can hear the sound of the storm fading as the hand is sent speeding towards the ground. The earth trembles as the impact sends shockwaves through the hanging earthmotes and for a brief precious moment all is calm.

Skard SOT: Endurance (DC 30) (1d20+17=23) Fail! Skard is Blinded until the start of his next turn.

Hands twisting in arcane knots, Maelvictus summons tendrils of darkness - shadowy tentacles the reek of brimstone attempt to find purchase on the cloudstuff that incorporates the Godstorm. It mingles ineffectually with the Head, but the beleaguered hand is not so lucky; it is dragged helplessly back along the rocks, and the wind itself is tethered fast by the power of the Nine Hells.

The right hand of the Godstorm, nearly broken and defeated, suddenly disperses into four separate gusts of wind. Those small gusts whip around the battlefield until they take the shape of four man-sized warriors, each wielding a long blade made of air.

    Standard: Dissolution.
    -Right Hand is destroyed.

-Stormling 2 is created in K28(V10).

Somewhat shaken and buzzing from yet another lightning bolt to the head, Spyre of course swears bitter vengeance against the maelstrom.

Spyre had 12 temp HP prior to the Godstorm attack.

Immediate Reaction: Strength of Unity - Spyre takes Int mod * allies within 2 squares less damage from the Godstorm's attack, reducing damage taken by 12.

    Total modified HP: +24

Spyre gains another 12 HP from further allied attacks.

Minor: Oath of Enmity vs Godstorm (Head).

    Save vs Dazed (1d20+1=18) Success!

Rathas shakes off the aftereffects of yet another blast of lightning. As the storm clears around him and he can see further than his own nose, he looks down and watches the Godstorm fragment dissolve with a satisfied smile. The amusement on his face merely intensifies as the Stormlings rise into the air before him.

    "Red Edge! Form Up!"

Heeding the cue, his allies rearrange themselves as smooth as the finest marble. Each of them takes heart from his words and from how the battle has gone so far. As ripples of heat radiate from Corianan, threatening to vaporize the fledgling stormlings, Rathas beckons what remains of the Godstorm, floating high above them.

"Time to flee or time to die; your choice."

    Save vs Dazed (1d20+5=20) Success!

    Standard: Defensive Rally!
Every ally within 5 can spend a surge, make a save and gain a +2 power bonus to all defenses until the end of my next turn.
Spyre, Corianan, Skard and Maelvictus all spend a surge and gain the defense bonus.
Maelvictus Save vs Atk/Will Penalty (1d20+1=13) Success!

The searing heat of Corianan's rage does its work on the storm creatures, but there is no time for gloating at their defeat. As they dissipate into clouds of steam, those clouds shift and reform, joining the wind to create two stormlings in the place of each one that was defeated.

At the start of Corianan's turn, Stormlings 1 - 4 are destroyed.

Skard is unable to shake the effects of the attack from the storm off but is still able to stumble around the battlefield and position himself next to Rathas.

Bolts of hellfire are streaming from Maelvictus now like sparks from a hellish anvil. They flit about the battlefield with minds of their own, seeking the stormlings - but being born of lightning, they dodge with supernatural quickness.

Their preoccupation, however, gives Maelvictus the time he needs to rally his magicks once more, and this time with greater success. Tendrils of black smoke find purchase in the thunderhead of the Storm God, and with a pantomimed yank from the devilkin, the roiling creature is hauled forward to fight toe to toe once more with the Red Edge.

Minor: Arcana: 1d20+19 21 My Ring of Arcane Information gives me a +5 to detect-magic-related Arcana checks, if that makes a difference...

    Standard: Hand of Radiance vs. 4x Stormlings: 4#1d20+27 43 32 31 31 1 Stormling goes down... :( I kill the one at O31.

35 necro dmg and I teleport the head 10 squares... to M30.

Rathas rises to his feet, a terrible burning fire in his eyes. Ignoring the swarm of stormlings around him he stretches his arm out to Corianan; the Tiefling and the Genasi are shrouded in a burst of momentary flame. Rathas gains vitality and strength from the fire clinging to him; Corianan gains power, and above all, anger.

The walking avatar of Fury that is Corianan provides an ironic constant in the battle field, wholly undaunted by the storm that destroys all else around him. The spirits of flame and death that course through his veins are joined by infernal power, surging out along the edge of his axe as he hurls himself into the heart of the storm with a roar. Blade and flame arc out in every direction, a savage explosion of violence that leaves the essence of this foe broken at last.

To start the turn off, every enemy on the field takes 13 fire damage bringing the Godstorm to 109 HP.

Standard Action: Storm of Blades Attack 1: 1d20+38=43 Hit!

I'm factoring out Shocking Flame and ignoring my other Thunder stuff since it's NOT GONNA WORK HERE :(

Storm of Blades Damage 1: 1d12+32=35 damage

Free Action: Belt of Giant Strength Daily to boost damage on next attack by +10.

Storm of Blades Attack 2: 1d20+35=44 Hit!

Storm of Blades Damage 2: 1d12+42=50 damage

Storm of Blades Attack 3: 1d20+35=54 Crit!

I'd roll and stuff but my crit damage is well in excess of his remaining 24 HP. He's fucking dead.

Fire and fury sweep over the battlefield, carried by gale-force winds that howl with the released energy of the godstorm. The wind stings your eyes and deafens your ears, tearing at your bodies and nearly sending you off the rock on which you stand. But without the power of the gods behind it, the wind quickly fades, and you stand resolute in your victory.

That quiet moment of satisfaction does not linger. Without the godstorm holding them aloft, the rocks begin to plummet back toward the mountain from which they were forcefully removed, and you suddenly find yourselves with three-hundred feet of empty air beneath your feet. Though Spyre has little to be concerned with, the rest of you have a few seconds to think about how to land on the mountain without becoming a part of it.

Maelvictus falls feet first towards the jagged rocks below, seemingly unconcerned. Something has been escaping his notice this battle... chin in hand, he ponders whilst he plummets, secure in the knowledge that his ring of flight will save him from so pedestrian a death as being dropped from a mountain side.

Corianan was annoyed. He remembered this sensation from their fight with the Falconess, and he was in no more of a mood to even consider the possibility of an inglorious death now than before. Lightning crackled about his flesh as he exerted his will on the plane about them, like calling to like until at last the wind heeds his call.

    "We've been delayed long enough."

Summoning the potent elemental energy of this place, Maelvictus creates an earthmote directly beneath the non-flying members of the Red Edge. It will be a hard landing, but not a fatal one.

    Moteshaping X3: 3#1d20+20 35 32 21

    1 Success!

Maelvictus will attempt to make an earthmote beneath Rathas or Skard, whoever he can reach if he can. I assume we are all falling in the same general formation we were in at the moment of the Godstorm's dissolution, and at the same rate. He'll continue to fall and try to aid the other one if we get another chance.

Rathas struggles to bring this plane's elements under his control; for a tenuous moment he feels what he's searching for, then loses control.

    LATER

"I hadn't been expecting visitors," Ogremoch says, his voice resonating throughout the cave in which you now stand. Once you had worked your way back down to the mountain, finding Ogremoch's chamber had been a relatively simple task. Now you stand before him, the ancient primordial himself a small mountain. His massive clawed fingers, each one the size of a goliath, grip the arms of his crystal throne, a structure large enough to fit a small village inside.

The walls of the cave are covered in glowing crystals, each one etched with arcane runes that no doubt date back to the time of the Dawn War. The polished stone of the floor is a stark contrast the jagged walls, and, when seen with Ogremoch's seat, give the cave the appearance of a throne room. But that is only an appearance. What looks to be a great mantle hanging from Ogremoch's shoulders is in fact a series of chains, each one attached to a ring embedded in his neck. The chains hang heavily from his enormous frame, running down to some unseen place behind his throne.

"But here you are," he thunders. "And here you are alive. You defeated the storm then. Impressive."

You had a short rest before this, so you can spend surges and such as needed.

"Impressive enough, I suppose. All who have stood before us up to this point have fallen; that upstart squall was no different. I set my sights somewhat higher."

Rathas reaches inside one of his pockets and wraps his hand around the shardmind crystal, hesitating a moment before withdrawing it.

"This chamber, however; now that's impressive. Do you spend a lot of your time here? It looks a little... lived-in, if you catch my meaning."

So the format here should be fairly obvious once you read through the post. Decide what you want to do and post your vote. Of course you can always discuss your options in the discussion thread.

After passing Balcoth's message on to Ogremoch, you reach an agreement to free him from his prison in exchange for the Horn of Earth. According to the ancient primordial, the Godstorm which you encountered was the first of two major defenses keeping him locked inside the mountain. The second is the mountain itself, made of stone from the mines of Moradin, infused with Corellon's magic, and blessed by the priests of Bahamut. The Godstone on which you now stand is no ordinary stone, but a living construct that waits in quiet slumber until someone is foolish enough to awaken it. Naturally, attempting to break Ogremoch's chains is the sort of activity that would disturb it.

How do you want to approach this?

    a) Force the chains open and deal with the consequences.
    b) Use subtle magic to ease the chains open, hoping to avoid waking the Godstone.
    c) Return to Sidras and consult with Esserus and Tesserex about other options.
    d) Attack Ogremoch and take the Horn of Earth by force.

Rathas frowns at the primordial's quid pro quo, then addresses the rest of the Red Edge.

"The Godstorm was, if not a formidable foe, then certainly a major annoyance. I do not wish to fight an entire mountain if I can avoid it; we have more important things to do."

    Option B!

    Option B it is.

Under the guidance of Ogremoch and with the assistance of Balcoth's shard speaking instructions into your minds, Rathas and Maelvictus set about the task of releasing the great primordial from his bonds. The work is hard and slow-going, as each layer of magic is intricately tied to a magical alarm that would wake the Godstone. Corianan, Spyre, and Skard wait on the floor of the chamber for what seems like an eternity, their weapons poised for battle.

After nearly two hours of painstaking work, Ogremoch's collar is almost open. It's at this last lock that a problem arises. While Balcoth knew well that the gods had fashioned Ogremoch's restraints, he had not counted on Vecna adding his magic to the mix. The master of secrets has used a ritual unknown to Balcoth to secure the last lock, leaving you with no other choice but to guess at its unmaking. Unfortunately, you guess wrong.

Stone spiders of varying sizes, but none smaller than a large cave troll, erupt from the walls and ceiling. Their rune-carved bodies glow brightly as they rush into combat, razor-sharp crystal fangs glittering in the light. Half glad to be done waiting and half reveling in the thrill of battle, Corianan, Skard, and Spyre take to their task with a mixture of amusement and burning wrath. Their weapons crash into the stone spiders with ruthless efficiency, crushing limbs, smashing heads, breaking bodies.

The spiders are not easily overwhelmed, however. For each one that is broken, several more rise from the shards of its body. Before long, the chamber is flooded with spiders of all shapes and sizes, such that the Red Edge's battle cries can scarcely be heard above the chitters and clatter of their arachnid enemies. As Ogremoch remains unable to join the battle, the task of defending the collar falls to Rathas, who fights with the fury and precision of a legendary warrior, truly the embodiment of all the strength of the tiefling race.

With four of your number wading weapon-first through a sea of crushing limbs and stabbing fangs, Maelvictus proceeds undaunted through the intricate magic of the last lock. His horrific visage burns through his carefully crafted human disguise as all his infernal energy is poured into defeating Vecna's arcane workings, and finally, with a shout of defiance, the lock is broken.

Thunder shakes the mountain as Ogremoch's heavy chains fall to the floor, crushing a field of spiders beneath their immense weight. Without hesitation, the great primordial rises to his feet, stomping through the mass of stone arachnids on his way to the exit. The five of you follow behind him, barely holding back the crushing wave of spiders that have filled his former prison.

Suddenly, the unnatural light of the elemental chaos spills over the chamber as Ogremoch rips a hole in the side of the mountain. The air is still and hot on the surface of the mountain, the wind having been recently destroyed. "Come," Ogremoch says plainly as he holds his hand down to you. Beating off the group of spiders that continue to harass you outside of the chamber, you leap aboard his massive palm, and with a flash of light and a crack of thunder, you disappear.

In the next moment you find yourselves atop a familiar mountain, the home of Redfrost Cavern. Ogremoch looms over you, though his attention is on himself, moving his limbs and stretching his body, enjoying his new freedom after thousands of years in chains. After allowing you a few minutes to tend to your wounds from an exhausting battle, he looks down at you and speaks. "You have fulfilled your end of the bargain," he says, his voice resonating in the stone beneath your feet. "And I will fulfill mine." He points to a nearby mountain, a tall peak overlooking a wide valley. "The Horn is there. Point it east and sound its call. The terrasque will rise from the valley."

The Horn of Earth is yours. When you use it to summon the terrasque, what will you do?

    a) Try to control the terrasque once it arrives.
    b) Let the beast roam free.

You can also speak with Ogremoch at this point if you'd like to.

The Horn of Earth lives up to its name. It is a massive horn, carved out of black rock, large enough at one end for the five of you to stand shoulder-to-shoulder. It easily dwarfs the old man sitting next to it, causing the canaries on his shoulders to look like fireflies next to the deep black stone. He leans against the old wooden staff in his hands as he looks at the five of you. "I hope you will reconsider this course," he says, addressing you as a group.

Corianan laughs, a deep noise that sounds like the echoes of thunder off of the surrounding barren peaks. "Only a coward holds such power within his hands and yet turns away. All must embrace the coming chaos, or perish in its wake."

The old man casts a sorrowful look at the horn, then looks back at you. "I've heard words like yours before." He sighs, then continues. "Consider the source of such power. Ogremoch made this horn. Do you not think it is his to command? And consider the one who gave you this plot to begin with. Balcoth's treachery knows no bounds. Do you not think he will turn on you as soon as you free him?"

"Let them try to stand in our path. Others have considered us their pawns before, only to fall beneath our blades. Ogremoch and Balcoth are two lesser beings, imprisoned for the length of eternity and about to be freed thanks to our efforts. If they are such mongrels as to not feel gratitude, then I have no pity for what will become of them when my fury falls upon them."

Rathas looks over the titanic Horn for a moment before his gaze returns to the old man. A half-smile comes over his face as he speaks again.

"What is your true purpose here, old one? Heed not our agenda; what is yours?"

"I had hoped to prevent another war, but it seems that war is inevitable." He turns and looks out toward the horizon. One of your many slave camps can be seen in the distance, this one providing halflings to work in the cramped mines of the mountains. "Perhaps it is for the best."

With that, the old man begins to walk away, and simply fades into nothing as he does so. The five of you are left alone with the horn.

"The old dragon plays on my deepest fears of treachery," muses Maelvictus. "It seems to me though that most great ascensions to primacy happen on the heels of a dangerous act of rebellion; let this be ours. Should we be destroyed in the ensuing chaos, then I at least shall take solace in the fact that we will live on forevermore as those who broke the world, if there is a world left to remember anything."

Skard snorts dismissively. "The way he slinks away while we lay waste to his works shows just how much this world demands our ascension."

"Let us be done with this".

"Enough talk, then!" Corianan nearly shouts. His eyes blaze like the aftermath of a lightning strike. The blue lines coursing over his body glow with elemental energy.

"Rathas, summon the beast that it might herald the twilight of this wretched world! Let us sunder the heavens and take our place as gods!"

Rathas listens to his soldiers with a knowing smile, ultimately nodding and stepping up to the mouth of the horn before addressing them.

"Whatever happens, we will be at the front of it. Any being that stands in our way, living or dead, mortal or immortal, primordial or god will find that it has chosen poorly. The great beast awakens; let us be the first to greet it."

Sound the Horn of Earth; daddy needs a new pair of tarrasque leather shoes.

The stone beneath your feet shakes and rattles as Rathas sounds the Horn of Earth. Its deep, thundering tone could likely be heard for hundreds of miles, and it seems that even the sky trembles at its call. Rock slides and avalanches crash down onto the valley below, where, if the primordials have been honest with you, the Tarrasque should now rise.

You don't have to wait long before huge cracks begin to form in the valley, where a separate rumbling has risen to meet the still echoing call of the horn. The cracks rush forward toward the center of the valley, forming a chasm from which a deafening roar suddenly erupts.

In an explosion of rock and soil, the Tarrasque arises. As it storms about the valley, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake, you look at the tools available to you and set your wills for the task at hand...

    MEANWHILE
The Iron City of Dis is a dire place. The high walls of the city make every street a labyrinth, every alley a prison, and every gate a narrow maw through which few enter and even fewer leave. You are some of the former, and with luck, you will become the latter.

    Ehlux (played by 3clipse)
As the newest envoy from Avernus, you have been sent to the Iron City to assist with the formation of a new troop regiment in Dispater's military. As one of four spies working for Balcoth, your task is to create weak points in the Iron City's security, meet up with the other spies, and assassinate Dispater.

Being the bastard son of a pit fiend has afforded you some measure of respect from Dispater and his subordinates, but that respect does not translate easily into trust. You've been assigned to a small group of legion devils, the Second Ninth, who are part of the rotation of tower guards that guard Dispater's citadel. You will need to find a way to create an opening in the Iron Tower's security through which your cohorts can enter and exit.

    Kh'mer (played by Molotov)
The Berrozan clan of war devils has been enslaved by Dispater for longer than any other. Your incredible strength and skillfully controlled rage are legendary among devil-kind, and as such you and your ancestors have had a long history of unwilling service in the Iron City's military. When Balcoth offered you a chance to end that slavery once and for all, it was not a difficult choice.

Your unit has recently returned from a skirmish near the border of Avernus. As a reward for your decisive victory, you are being placed among the tower guard, tasked with securing the Iron Tower's courtyard. You haven't yet figured out how that's supposed to help with the assassination of Dispater, but you assume that will all be worked out once you meet the other conspirators.

    Lither (played by Soxbox)
Running a business in Dis is hard. Running a smuggling ring that moves weaponry through Dis and down to the lower Hells is considerably harder, particularly if you don't want to get caught. That's why, when you were offered the job of assassinating Dispater, you initially turned it down. But you've always had a bit of an anarchist in you, and the resulting war would be good for business.

As it stands, you're the point of contact for the other three conspirators. You have the plans, and you know the back alleys and underground tunnels. You know the patrols, you've paid off the guards, and you have the weapon that will bring Dispater down. Now you just need your team.

    Ssrssis (played by Rius)
When you first came to Dis, you had no idea where you were. Something had gone terribly wrong, a portal had collapsed, and you were stranded on an iron street. Your arrest came soon after, and you've been rotting in prison ever since. But now you have a plan, and a key from a mysterious contact working for someone named Balcoth. You're ready to break out and get revenge on the lord of this accursed city. Of course, that hinges on your ability to escape the prison alive, and after that, to find the other conspirators. But for the best reaver the Hive Mother has ever hatched, that shouldn't be a problem.

I'll be posting your stats and an explanation in the discussion thread.
