So I just drove out to Flagstaff, Arizona this past week for a volunteer program called the American Conservation Experience and was wondering if anyone had any advice concerning activities/things to see in and around Flagstaff. I've already gotten some advice from fellow volunteers, and there are plenty of outdoors-type places to visit all around the city, but I just wanted to see if anyone has any advice concerning activities in the town itself. Thanks in advance!
Never spent much time in Flagstaff when I was living in Phoenix. However, if you run out of things to do or are up for a drive, you could always check out Sedona which is about 45 minutes north.
The observatory outside of town, Lowell Observatory, also... Flagstaff was America's first Dark City, so star gazing there is amazing. Camping is fantastic, and there are lots of places to do it.

'Fuck yeah, me too. What little kid ever pretended to be part of the lynch-mob?'
Additionally, you are only about 20 minutes north of Sedona. If you've never been there, you will kick yourself for not visiting when you are this close.

Yeah, Beaver Street is pretty good for brewfood. It's been a LONG time since I was there, but if the Black Bean is still around (downtown), then you owe yourself at least one lunch there.
If you're into all that hippie shit (and all signs in the OP point to "yes"), check out New Frontiers on Milton. Probably one of the few left in existence, after the natural market wars between Whole Foods and Wild Oats. I was in my vegetarian phase when I lived in Flagstaff, and New Frontiers had the BEST meatless hot dogs in their deli.
Other than outdoors stuff, there's really not much in Flagstaff to do. It's a college town, so between the students and the tourists, you can count on most of the bars and brewpubs having a lively crowd until closing time.

I hope you mean "from Phoenix", because otherwise, you need to spend some time with a map of the state.
Beaver Street Brewery is a great place to eat. There is also a nice italian restaurant called Oreganos that is a great place to eat, good pizza and they have huge portions. Another great place, if you like Thai food, is Dara Thai. They also have amazing portions and it's pretty cheap too.
As far as bars go, just go to downtown flagstaff and you'll see for yourself. I would stay away from Collins and Malones after about 10:00, they are frat-bars mostly and are fucking terrible :v: Though I haven't been to the bar scene too often in the summers, but I can't imagine it would be any different. The Hotel Monte Vista is also a nice bar to go to as well as Uptown Billiards.
Don't forget that you are near the Grand Canyon and Sedona. Sedona is a nice little town, very artsy fartsy but still a nice town to day trip. There is a nice creek that comes off the mountain down there as well. Also you can hang out downtown for a bit.. there a few nice shops down there and it's a pretty cool atmosphere at night. In fact, if you are going to be there on the first friday of june, there is always a lively downtown art walk with galleries all around town.
