So, I am getting engaged. The girl knows perfectly well I'm going to ask her and we've already agreed that she should pick out the actual engagement ring she's going to end up wearing.
But I do want to ask her by presenting her with a ring in spectacular and melodramatic fashion. So basically, I'm looking for a "placeholder" ring—i.e. a relatively cheap ring that is for show until we pick out her actual ring—that I can give her.
I was thinking something like this binary ring, but ... you know ... cheaper than $1000. There was also a crypto ring on Boing Boing that struck our fancy a while ago, but again, prohibitively expensive. Does anyone know of a place to get nerdy jewelry?

This binary band instead. They come in silver too.
