So, as the headline reads, I am looking for information on the sword that is used by Milla Jovovich in the comic book movie, Ultraviolet.
Here is a pic of it, just in case anyone did not see the movie in question, but is knowledgeable about swords:
Specifcally, what kind of sword is it? Is it just a variation? If so was it actually used in real life? If it was just created for the movie, that would also be nice to know. Watched the movie recently, and the design of the sword caught my eye, and now I have a need to have some knowledge.
My google-fu is weak, H/A, you are my only hope!
"Over the centuries, mankind has tried many ways of combating the forces of evil...prayer, fasting, good works and so on. Up until Doom, no one seemed to have thought about the double-barrel shotgun. Eat leaden death, demon..."

That's the most awful sword I have ever seen in my entire life. In addition to the ugly design, there is no protection for the hand.
Perhaps it was created to look futuristic or something like that.

This post sums up the internet quite well.
On topic: yeah, it's just a modified machete. You can oftentimes find movie prop shops online that sell knock-offs from various movies so, if you want your own, it could happen.

edit: the ring pommel feels more Korean/Chinese than Japanese, though.

There's a few differences between the two, but they're both double edged straight swords with blades that get broader as you approach the tip.
It kinda reminds me of a baseball bat...

If you want a straight sword it should have a proper point so you can stab/pierce/thrust.
edit: beated.
