Gillware Hard Drive Recovery?

I've been up ALL night last night because of a Hard Drive crash. I've been lazy about backing up (try 8 months lazy) and now- well- I boot into knoppix and it doesn't even see the drive. So, data recovery (yes the data is that important) Does anyone know anything about Gillware? I've seen some reviews on-line, but know that they can be faked... I'm wondering if you've had experience with them. Or another data recovery team for under 1k? (As they look to be). Thanks.
UPDATE!: I just learned that my HDD (Seagate Barracuda 7200.11) (Model number ST3500320AS) has a known brick issue from which I seem to be suffering. If you know my solution- let me know!
