Just saw the trailer, and frankly I'm stoked. I like all the Metroids, even the Primes, and this just seems to be the next step for Metroid. It's done 2D side scroller, it's done 3D FPS, a third person 3D side scroller-esque view actually seems like a logical next step to me.
If this has Ninja Gaiden's depth of combat, combined with Metroid's famous exploration and power up system, I'd be sitting in front of my Wii for days after it releases.
No offense, but I find it kind of amusing how you say "even the Primes" as though it were controversial or unusual. It's a bit like saying "I like all the Grand Theft Auto games, even III". :P
Actually, reading these forums sometimes, you would think it was controversial or unusual. While I think most people did like the Primes, they are polarizing at times. There are some serious diehard Metroid fans who would like to forget they exist, and they can be vocal. I get your drift though, it was sort of odd how I worded that.
I didn't like the Primes. But that was due more to the awkward controlls than to thematic concerns.

And yet when it comes time that both Gamecube Primes come out on Wii, we all know that we will leave that store with both. Did I mention that I didn't like Dark Samus?
I thought the GC Primes were being released in a trilogy pack bundled with Corruption? I know I read that somewhere and commented to myself "Welp, guess I am gonna own two copies of Corruption".
My beef with 3rd person is pointed out with Splinter Cell: Conviction, if the character isn't doing anything interesting, there's no real point to it. If the character is boring to look at, the same applies.
I dunno what sort of engine they are using for this but I hope that seeing Samus walk around, they offer up new and interesting angles to see the suit from.

We're going to see a PG rated Samus at best.
Yeah I know but I wanted to make that joke anyway.

I'm just quoting this because it's funny to see a big lineup of gyrating digital woman gifs.
I haven't been this excited for a game since, well, Corruption came out.
Though I'm a bit concerned about what Yoshio Sakamoto might do to the series timeline. Yes, he's responsible for the story in all the games and they have been incredible, but he's also responsible for the manga, and I'm seeing more and more elements from the manga in the games.
I'm kinda sad to hear it's gonna follow a more linear Fusion type formula, but at the same time, if they can really nail the over the top action I wont mind much.
What does Samus spend her bounty money on? She must be rich as Oprah after seven games of blasting zoomers and Space Pirates.
It's been a while since I played it but for some reason I want to say that they mention in Prime 3 that she has like a whole warehouse of gunships.
She does seem to loose track of them with alarming frequency, so I suppose that would be logical.
I would think she would have a palace somewhere with as much as she should be paid. Still though, Its probably has a fuckton of shoes in the said palace.
She has a warehouse full of gunships next to her much larger warehouse full of shoes, both of which are dwarfed by her 1500 room mansion. All the buildings are made out of solid gold and platinum.
Maybe she's set for life after the payout from the missions in metroid and return of samus, and all the stuff she does after that is just pro bono/personal?
Rich people have done stranger things. A lot of people's only goal is getting rich, but when they get there, they start doing crazy shit. So maybe that's like Samus?

Well she like really hates Space Pirates so there's that
Although she did do something completely unrelated to Space Pirates in Metroid Prime Hunters so I guess she's still in it for the dolla dolla bills

Echo's was ok, but became hamstrung by the lack of the colour pallet in the dark world and the fact that you were limited with your ammunition on your main gun as opposed to just your powerbombs and missiles.
Corruption was..... Well if you liked the controls it was a good game I suppose.
I swear to god, one more console game without Kraid and I'll lose it.
If it wasn't for Zero Mission it would have happend years ago. Kraid is awesome.
Kraid peaked in super metroid I don't think he will ever be back. I would like to see kraid come back though. I still love his theme. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8B2xC8QoE0I
It seems like Ridley and mother brain keeps getting reborn and that's it though. I never complained about the mother brain pulling an escape instead of dying in the original metroid. But Ridley? Can that dumb ass bird finally die?
I hate hate HATED the ammo system in Echoes. I didn't finish the game for years because of it. Not to mention the final boss was downright evil. Took me dozens of tries to kill. I screamed in triumph when I finally did. But I have no desire to EVER play that game again.
Prime and Corruption, on the other hand, are both fantastic.

Super Metroid also has better graphics. The artwork is far better and the whole thing feels a lot more varied.
Really, Super Metroid's controls aren't QUITE as nice as those in Zero Mission, but it's such a minor factor that it's easily overlooked within ten minutes or so.
Rose tinted glasses
Zero Mission is better looking that Super Metroid and the controls are far superior.
Having to press select to use missiles feels SO dated now and no power grip and nearly impossible wall jumping is terrible.
Not to mention two separate buttons for aiming on each diagonal...
Compare - I like ZM better but if nothing else I think they're about equal. I like Samus's more agile look in Zero Mission though. Her sprite was a bit cramped in SM.
I wouldn't mind seeing a SNES size sprite of the leaner ZM Samus.
Also, when people complain about Fusion's linearity, they're typically complaining about the fact that someone is guiding you - just like the Chozo statues in ZM. Super Metroid is linear, too - it just doesn't have anyone telling you where to go, and there are probably more options for sequence breaking and items that aren't required.

There probably isn't a more inappropriate phrase than "rose tinted glasses" in a discussion about Super fucking Metroid. Not having to press select is an improvement, no doubt, but it's such an inconsequential flaw when compared to the rest of the game. As is power grip; it's not exactly needed in that game at all.
And wall jumping, really? It is nowhere near impossible, it doesn't require any more sense of timing than, say, executing combos in a fighting game. I could do that shit flawlessly after a bit of experimentation.

Well, there's basically zero sequence breaking in Fusion. Apparently even if you manage to pull off anything it will seriously glitch up the game as the event counter gets all screwy. The problem isn't that it tells you where to go, it's that you can only go where it tells you to go and only when you're told to go there.
Fusion's still fun, though, and a much better game than, say, Hunters or even Prime 2.

Super Metroid is still fantastic, but rose tinted glasses is still apt.
The game holds up better than the vast majority of 16-bit games. It does suffer from a few archaic limitations, but it's perfectly playable today, and arguably a more well-designed game than either Fusion or Zero Mission. It also has what is probably the best final boss encounter in game history.

Gamefaqs shows a 1% walkthrough for fusion. I didn't read all of it, but that seems to indicate there's plenty of optional stuff and sequence breaking.
Personally, I think I prefer the Super Metroid control scheme over Zero Mission's, but both work quite well IMO. The lack of power grip isn't an issue at all, either. Wall jumping just needs a bit of practice, but I can see how that would be annoying to some. It's not like it's required to beat the game, though. I can't really agree with the "rose tinted glasses" mentality for looking at Super. Then again, they could just completely revamp the map in Super Metroid and rerelease it every year and I'd be perfectly content to keep paying, so I'm probably a bit biased.

Nope. Power ups such as the Varia Suit, high jump, etc don't count toward the item collection rate. What you're skipping are energy tanks and additional missile, super missile, and power bomb expansions with the exception of a single missile expansion that it almost completely impossible to skip thanks to its location. You still have to run through the rest of the game in the order the developers intended/forced on you.
So yeah, there's plenty of optional "stuff" but absolutely no sequence breaking.

Quoting gyrating booty to return the thread back to Metroid M, I wonder if we will get to see a semi romantic storyline with homedude from Metroid Fusion
Regarding Super Metroid Control Scheme: Isn't it completely customizable, anyway?
Yes depending on how you define completely. You can remap buttons, but people's complaints go a bit further than that. Someone has created a patch for the ROM that makes the control scheme for similar to Zero Mission (autorun, easy switching between beams and your selected missiles/power bombs/grappling beam, etc. I'm not sure we can discuss that here, though...

It doesn't have anything to do with bias. Of course, you're biased if you like the game. This does not mean you are unable to look at it critically, and, aside from some slight issues that have already been mentioned, the game is virtually flawless, mechanically; in addition to pacing, level design and difficulty balance being impeccable. I'd argue that it is one of the few games that is truly ageless; if you don't like the aesthetics, or whatever, that's fine, but the fact that lots of developers are still building upon the formula of this game, and still not attaining the same level of design consistency, is quite telling.
Take Zero Mission or Fusion, for example. I really love these games, and I'm also a huge fan of the Primes. But all these games have entirely different, more severe flaws that Super Metroid does not, that keeps them from being as solid an experience. Does pressing select to fire missiles really approach any of the major flaws in any of the other Metroids, comparatively? That's not to say improvements haven't been made since then, but, as a whole, Super Metroid still stands out as being among the apex of 2D game design.

Regarding a Romance with Adam: From Fusion I got the impression that Adam was more a father figure type person than a romantic relationship. Let's hope there's no love story in Metroid (aside from the love of that baby Metroid for Samus...)
