    Oh. Oh man.

    Beginning of Chapter VIII spoilers.
I'm running across this bridge thing, merely a spec on the screen, toward the castle.

Is...is the castle as big as it looks?

    Yes.

Whoever asked "Is there a castle in this?".

Yes there is. OH BOY, there is.

Still working on Chapter 2 here, but I'm really starting to enjoy the combat. I've been playing on an SDTV since yesterday which has taken some getting used to.

It's a fine-enough looking game, but I'm really curious what the hell most people here are on when they're referring to it as one of the best-looking console games out there

    Because uh...it's kinda not

Well, I know that (from reading this thread).

Just while playing it I saw textures and stuff that remind me of, for example, Gears of War. Like the brick buildings and whatnot.

Also the overt shininess to a lot of things.

The graphics and artstyle are coherent. EVERYTHING is designed, every tiny little corner looks handcrafted and is filled with detail.

The overall feel and package plus the beautiful artstyle make it stand out.

It may not be the technically best, but it is certainly along the most beautiful.

Yeah, it has a great art style, and everything is meticulously detailed, but that comes along with a somewhat stuttering frame rate. I'd rather have a smoother frame rate with less detail, personally.

Frame rate /= how good it looks visually.

Sometimes I wish the frame rate was a bit better, but it's there when I need it and all other times I can eat up all those tasty visuals.

When I ran across that bridge and saw it for the first time, my jaw hit the fucking floor. They could have easily made it just this big stone castle and be done with it...but no, they went balls out making it gothic as shit with those towers. The architecture on that thing is nothing short of amazing.

    When you
come out of the cave and see the castle for the very first time, way waaaaaaay in the background, with the lightning storm above it and the music playing, I just let Gabriel stand there to admire the view thinking "Holy shit,I'll have to traverse all of that, won't I?"

Ugh, why did the game have to checkpoint me on the final phase against the Lycan Lord with no health?

I was so low I died during the save! Guess I have to restart the fight and beat the previous phase with more health.

a parry/counter will charge your focus meter to full, which will let you refill your magic so you can heal.

Already tried that. I got some Light Magic and it wasn't healing me, probably because he can't take damage in this phase.

I ended up finally managing to beat it by doing two things:

    1) Redoing the fight so I started the phase at full health
    2) Realizing I didn't have to break the statues with the glove and could use the whip

The sad thing is I beat the first two phases in a single try.

He also loses most of his speed and abilities in the final phase. He's really easy to just avoid and deal with the statues.

Are you playing on PS3 or 360?

I'm on 360 and basically whenever I'm not in combat, the frame rate gets pretty damn choppy just running around exploring

In the Mass Effect 2 I learned that I end up getting stuck in completely different parts of games than other people :)

I was beating things on the first try that took others 20 tries, and taking 20 tries to beat things people nailed on their first try.

Anyway, this is what I get for assuming I had to use

Man, the castle in this game does not disappoint.
Tearing down the windows to let the sunlight in for the entryway fight was just so awesome. I loved playing keep away with the vampires, and then it gets cloudy... I am also loving that the enemy makeup now is totally in the Castlevania direction. Skeletons, worgs, animated armor, vampires, ghouls, it's all here. Then the boss that I could swear was a Diablo 1 nod. It's more awesome than my tiny mind can take.

    Wait

So I'm reading now that, even with both discs installed, visiting earlier areas when I'm (story-wise) on disc two I still have to switch back to disc one? I thought they fixed this problem before release?

That sucks pretty bad if so.

Unless you're jumping from late game to early game and back constantly for some odd reason.

Even then it'd be hard to blame on the game.

    No, I can't really.

If you're starting to do them at all you're going to have to do them all, so just do them in order.

And if you want to jump all over the maps for some odd reason, do it per disc if it's that big of a deal.

Complaining about disc swapping is the most petty fucking thing.

Just kind of pissed I went with the 360 version now, that's all

Konami's original stance on this was "install disc one" and you'll be good

Guess MS stepped in at the last second and no reviews or anything bothered to mention it
