I'm sitting here with my 1000HE netbook, being bored. I've played the hell out of Plants Vs. Zombies, but would like something else to occupy me. Preferably newer stuff, but hey, i'll take any suggestions.
So, games netbooks can run that are fun? I've also got 2 gigs of ram. And I can't use Steam sadly, because of this stupid school proxy they have set up.
I have the original 701 ASUS EEE and Diablo 2, Morrowind, and Black & White all run fantastic on it. You can basically run anything from, what, 2002 and earlier?

What the fuck?
Talk to your school's IT crew. With any luck you'll have someone there who plays TF2/L4D and understands your plight.

I'm in England for a few weeks, so it's really not worth it. But there's some random down time that having games would be nice for. They're using the stupid ass Websense program.
Has Jagged Alliance 2 stood the test of time well enough to warrant a look?

I'd say it has. If you're into squad level TBS games, well there've been few since that matched up. It's a very in-depth game, and the 2D art style helps somewhat as well. If you were ever into games like X-Com, JA2 is usually a very good choice.
Other games from there would be the Fallout games (Fallout Tactics is a a decent strategy game as well, but personally I'd rate JA2 higher).
I know you said recent, but HomeWorld is my standby game on the laptop, and I just enjoyed a playthrough of Opposing Force on a recent trip. It's amazing how quickly the graphics issue falls away when the gameplay is engaging.

This. The only thing you're limited by is pretty games. I prefer the classics anyway. Even some newer games today, like plants vs. zombies, are perfectly playable on practically any computer. And it's even pretty to look at.
