er immediately?

maybe im smoking something funny... but i THOUGHT before my last reformat that when i hit ctrl alt delete that it went right to task manager, and not that "windows security" window with the 6 options, only one of which is task manager..

maybe it was because I had norton on last time and it disables windows security features or somethign in place of its own?

In the Control Panel->User Accounts, if you enable the Windows XP "Welcome Screen" then when you hit Ctrl+alt+del, the task manager will come up immediately. If you disable the welcome screen option then ctrl+alt+del will give you the "Windows Security" screen. On another note, Ctrl+shift+esc will always bring up the task manager immediately, regardless of the settings (it's a little easier anyway because you can just use one hand to bring up the task manager).

A little offtopic, but I like having my task manager open and minimized in the task tray at all times. I made a shortcut with
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start /min "Task Manager" taskmgr.exe

as the target and stuck it in the start menu. It is always just a click away and I can see at a glance how much cpu is being used.

Also, do you not have a right alt key NP, or are you hands just really, really tiny?

Nope, actually I have pretty gigantic man-hands. But I would assume that, with most people being right handed holding the mouse with your right hand, and by default keeping your left hand on the left side of the keyboard, that they created the Ctrl+shift+esc combo for exactly this reason.
