im trying to decided between buying an asus 900ha and a dell mini 10

Asus: http://www.amazon.com/900HA-8-9-Inch-Netbook-Processor-Storage/dp/B001GIPSAM/ref=tpi_image_2?ie=UTF8&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=442816401&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_r=0Z9DAQR7PFNNV0BDTKV1&pf_rd_i=679517011

Dell: http://www.dell.com/us/en/home/notebooks/laptop-inspiron-10/pd.aspx?refid=laptop-inspiron-10&s=dhs&cs=19

since i work retail i get a discount through dell which makes both of these netbooks about the same price, and they have about the same stats. so essentially what i am asking which of these would be the better deal?

Personally, I prefer Asus stuff to Dell any day of the week.

Though I'm running a 1000HE, it is a fantastic netbook for my needs :D

I would go for the Asus over the Dell. Asus tends to make quality machines.

Though I'd probably get an HP with a ssd over either. If only they didn't have that ugly ass swirl design on the case.

Short answer on netbooks, make sure the battery life is wicked long.
There is no need to have such a portable computer that has to be plugged in all the time.

How did you come to settle on these two? What is your budget?

i was kind of hoping for a 300ish lap top although i am willing to go a little above that.

As for choosing between these ones i like how in love Wired is with Asus and i have always have had good experiences with Dells and they both seem like decent choices stats wise and price wise

i plan on using this for some light word processing, surfing the net, music, and watching videos (mostly on Hulu and netflix)

also on a machine like this is throwing in the 2gb ram stick really worth it?

As for the hard drive im very gentle with electronics so im not really concerned with having the regular drives. and if god for bid it breaks hard drives are not really expenisive

If you don't mind going a little over 300 I would highly recommend the 1000HE.

And yes, throwing an extra gig of ram is worth it, especially for watching videos and whatnot.

The 1000HE is pretty much the go to suggestion for netbooks at the moment. "9.5" hour battery life, 160GB HDD, under 3 lbs. You can get it for 380 off newegg right now. If you work at Best Buy and want to use the discount, they carry a 1000HEB which is similar but has some minor hardware changes which I couldn't tell you about.
I can't stress enough how amazing it is being able to take my laptop out for the day without a power cord. The 1000HE wasn't out when I bought my 901 (shorter battery, smaller screen and keyboard which I actually prefer, and a paltry SSD), but I would buy it now.

Have you had a look at a Samsung NC10? I went for one of these a few months back when I was looking around.

One of the best things I've ever bought. Extremely happy with it.

1000HE seems awesome but is the extra .06 gig processor really a noticable difference? and is an extra 4hours of battery really worth a $100

I would say yes right there. Four hours is a pretty big timeframe! It's still a little under $400, and is a great machine.

Yes, there is a difference especially if you end up using GMA Booster.

Shit, an "extra four hours" is double the time for many notebooks.

Also, a GMA overclocking utility? Solid, I'll have to give this a shot on a netbook.

Theres some things you need to be careful of when using GMA Booster, which is briefly discussed in the SE++ netbook thread. I can't find the original post for that app but the one I linked has the same info.

Well yes, it's overclocking, the standard "may BBQ your notebook" disclaimer applies. I think the Atom will bottleneck things as well due to low CPU power, and I don't really see me using this for much beyond ePeening on a netbook, but it's still cool.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Well mostly because this is a realistic scenario if you use it, forget you had it on and come back to your computer hours later
