Prototype? What is this?
Basically, its Hulk: Ultimate Destruction (an oXbox game) with gore. One could call it a superhero game, but really if you're calling Mercer (the main character) a hero you're probably the type of person who considers torturing kittens a relaxing sunday afternoon.
The long and the short of it: You have amazing abilities to wreck shit, while everybody else in the game world either:
A) Shoots at you
![B) B)](https://forums.penny-arcade.com/resources/emoji/sunglasses.png)
Tries to eat you
C) Runs away screaming from you
I hear this game has Parkour and I can jump like a fairy
It does have Parkour (or Freerunning or whatever the fuck you want to call it), and Mercer certainly is light on his feet for a couple ton killing machine.
Is this better than InFamous?
Opinions on this will differ widly, because their different games. The best analogy I've heard is this:
"InFamous is like GTA4, while Prototype is like Saints Row2. GTA is a prettier game, trying to make a realistic world as possible. Saints Row 2 just wants you to blow something up"
Is there anything I should know about the different versions?
There are reports of the PC version having some technical difficulties involving Sound and Slowdown
PS3 is also apparently experiencing some troubles installing.

Tomorrow I have a call at 6:30
The game unlocks on steam at 7:00
Once I get home from shows I have maybe 2 hours-ish before I sleep.
Fucking.
Not going to be able to play until I wake up the next day
And why is it more painful than the previous 3 months combined.
I was in an infected area.
So I sucked up a police man and ran around with bare fists and no powers but sprint, mano-a-manoing the zombies.
There'd be like, other cops shooting the infected zombie dudes and my cop would sprint in, one to two in the head, sweep them off their feet and then BAM punch them into the building.
tip hats and off we go.
The fast, strong, strong, strong combo is so bad ass. The last kick, fully charged, will send them a full block away. It's a full reverse kick.
I got bored eventually, of course, but hey. It was neat.
I don't know why I keep getting my hopes up with these console ports. Wolverine suffered from the same general lack of polish this does.
Only this is better and smooth as butter.
"According to a Post-modernist perspective slashing people with a spiked Mr Tickle arm is awesome."
Yea, agreed. Wolverine may not have been the greatest game ever, but it certainly wasn't a bad PC port.
I once in a 400-level class aced a course by referencing Bioshock in my final paper.
All I'm saying it use it, man.
Whatever helps you sleep at night. I couldn't get past the controls. They were laggy, unprecise, and hard on the hands in general if you are playing KB&M. Controls like this come from lazy conversion from the console. Instead of totally redoing the control scheme for KB+M, the mouse is mapped for an anolouge sick. Becasue a stick can not move as fast and persice as a mouse, it creates lag, making the game harder to play.
There are about a billion things that can mess up a PC running software.
Often times, this is attributed to "shitty port", if certain other things work.
Often times, this is wrong.
My computer runs perfectly. It handles Crysis on high without batting an eye. SupCom with more than 4 players about 30 minutes in when unit numbers are getting high crashes the game. I can't figure out why, and it doesn't happen with any other intense games.
Theoretically, I'd say that SupCom is a shittily programed game. But I know that's not the case 'cause I'm the only one having the problem. And I "know" it's not my PC because other games work fine, right?
What I'm saying is, one person saying "SHIT PC PORT!" is probably not exemplary of the port. But it's certainly understandable.
Go read the official forums as well as any number of 3rd party sources. People are complaining of the same things. The dodgy controls have nothing to do "with my PC" anyway.
As for SupCom, it is a pretty common problem with the crashing. It usually is because your page file has become too large.
I was really focusing on your complaints about Prototype's audio bugs and other technical issues, which Wolverine certainly didn't have.
But I have a gamepad for PC. I have it not even because ports have bad controls, but because games like Burnout: Paradise or GRiD or DMC are just going to work better on a gamepad. Prototype is probably just going to work better on Gamepad. No amount of well-mapped KB+M controls are going to help this. With the exception of *PS and *TS games, a lot of games will just work better on Gamepad. It's like a $20 piece to add a 360 controller to PC. I spend $50 total for the controller and the adapter. It's well worth it.
Anyways, maybe I just am happy being only a PC gamer for any port that lets me see the game in the resolution I want and doesn't chug on appropriate settings, but honestly, one user, two users, or even a well-documented problem doesn't affect me unless I run into it, and event then, how much am I dealing with?
People complained about the GTAIV port, for instance. I've never run into chugging, I've never run into problems. Sure, the settings comparatively are worse than other games, but they look fine.
What I'm saying really boils down to isn't that I don't believe you have problems. It's not that I don't believe there may be problems. It's that unless it's universal, there's no reason to bitch out the developers, when other players may or may not run into it.
For instance, everyone can agree that the DMC3 port was shitty. Or the RE4 port. Because the problems in them were universal. Fucking no one had RE4 initially have mouse support. At all. Period. It wasn't a "Well it runs shitty on x hardware and crashes on x hardware and controls poorly on x hardware" it was "Regardless of hardware, this shit sucks.:
Either way, I've already paid for this shit on PC on steam. I'll get it bugs and all, and I'll get all the after-release support. And I'll post my reactions. So part of me is tinged by that.
Even though the shield could stand to be more durable, I still absolutely love it. Mostly because you can sprint down sidewalks with it and pedestrians endlessly fly into the air, but also because it reflects bullets instead of simply blocking them. Imagine my surprise when a handful of soldiers managed to shoot themselves to death.
Also, I'm a soldier. Artillery strike on that guy! Run away. Laugh. Laugh hard.
I've been busy golding most of the optional events and trying to do as much as possible in between missions.
I had more beef with the graphics settings which were almost nonexistent. Even that was easy to get around through the Nvidia control panel. Just rename the exe UT3 and run what ever you like.
Ah, it's happening again!
You know what'd help with your school problem? Just go up and juice your professor.
What? No, I said talk with your professor. The fuck are you on, man?
It's kind of funny how Alex is all like, "I gotta find who did this to me and stop them, so that they can't do it to anyone else," and then slaughters half of New York trying to stop whoever it is
XBL - Foreverender | 3DS FC - 1418 6696 1012 | Steam ID | LoL
My Alex looks on the normal people of new york as a herd to be protected, but from whom many must be sacrificed to preserve the greater good. If theres a helicopter coming and all I have to throw at it is you random civilian, then say hello to the inside of an armored assault chopper.
I'm still not particularly fond of the way you look when gliding, but I'm completely happy with the inclusion of the technique. Combined with the the double air dash plus upgrades, you can glide ridiculously far. Strikes a very nice medium between conventional running/driving and boring Superman flight. Not as awesome as well-done webslinging, but still very useful.
Also, pegging helicopters to death with the soldiers they drop has some nice ironic humor to it. The way the human models have a nice spiral to them after throwing only adds to the humor. The first fights with hunters are a real pain in the ass, though. The way they just keep piling up on you in the first fight means that a bad hit or two gets you caught in a lethal chain of attacks. The fact that the lock-on and diveroll are controlled with the same stick certainly didn't help matters (maybe I want to target one guy and evade?). I want to see how well the manage to not stagger when I'm busy powerfisting them, though.
The power management system in this game is absolutely fantastic. Using the power menu means all of your powers are never more than a second away from selection and even a slight familiarity means you can easily switch between powers in the middle of a fight without breaking the flow. Which is vital, considering that the game will not hesitate to throw a couple choppers, some tanks, and a small army of soldiers at you at any given point. Not being able to rapidly switch powers in a big fight would make the switching itself more or less useless and limit you to only a couple powers selected before the fight began.

From the IGN review:
Also, apparently everything in the game can be done in under 20 hours. :?
Don't worry too much, this game is astounding, New York feels huge and the sense of horror and desperation is pretty much unreplicated as the game progresses. The controls are smooth and responsive and the powers are DEVASTATING. Although remember that Alex is an instrument of devastation. If you feel bad whenever you kill a civilian, then you'll be feeling bad a lot!
Theres races and battles and hundreds of little things to find scattered around the city. I don't know quite how much impact you're going to be able to have on the plot, but the web of intrigue is very interesting.
They are all 90%+
IGN also has a history of shitty reviews.
I was waiting for someone to say this, but it's kind of pointless because no matter what review I cited, someone would come in and say "[Gaming site] has a history of shitty reviews."
God
motherfucking
Hand
I'd disagree with that review fundamentally, what he's forgetting is that while the graphics in this game aren't great on an individual civilian, this game renders hundreds of them perfectly in real time running battles with tanks, giant squid monsters, zombies, helicopters and ravening giant beasts.
His complaint about troops spotting you all the time as you run about is irrelavant, changing form can be done instantly at any time you are unseen, and troops on the ground do not see you flying overhead.
