Jewelry from Overstock.com?

So my girlfriend's birthday is next week. I've typically sworn off jewelry because we've had a bad track record (she lost one necklace, the chain on another broke, a bracelet broke), but I'm really at a loss for what to get her this year.

I figured I'd get her a new necklace, maybe something with pearls because I know she likes them. I'm trying to spend under $300. I could walk down to a jewelry store here and buy something, but I thought it couldn't hurt to try and get something nicer on Overstock.com for around the same money. Is this a bad idea? Does anyone have experience with jewelry shopping on there?

I've bought a couple of inexpensive pieces (~$300 or so) from Overstock and the recipient has always been very pleased. I'd buy from them again.

They're nice, don't take the picture at face value though. Got a ring from there for about $100. It was probably a $100 ring, but it made it look like a $300 one.

    Still pretty good stuff there.

So for a girl who doesn't necessarily care where something comes from (that I've been dating for 4 years), I could buy something from there and expect it to be of reasonably good quality?

Yes, you can, and you'll likely get more for your money than from a retail store.

You can probably find a better deal going to sears or some other store that carries jewelry but isn't a jewelry store. Or shop around, some stores are negotiable in their prices and you may find something better. But yeah the jewelry is okay.

keep in mind that the jewelry doesn't come in a presentable box, though, which is a tad annoying. Some thinks come in this cheap red Overstock box with a big O on it. Some don't come with anything.

You may want to plan to pick up nice box for whatever you're getting from a dollar store or something.

Depending on what you're looking at, I've gotten jewelry for my girl on there, and have found the original vendor from which they got the Overstock from. A lot of it is from Ice.com, or at least it used to be. It definitely can be a good deal, if you pick the right stuff. If you pick a $5 pearl necklace, then you're gonna get what you pay for. As for department stores, they're a rip off. Don't bother checking there, unless they're having a sale, which would actually then be what it should really cost.

As for presentation, there are plenty of velvet flocked boxes on eBay for like $3-4 including shipping.

I've got a diamond ring I'm trying to sell, and it's in your price range, if you're interested PM me.

If he gets her a diamond ring, she's not going to be thinking "birthday present."

I was looking at something like http://www.overstock.com/Jewelry-Watches/14k-Pink-Gold-Brown-FW-Pearl-and-Diamond-Necklace-8-mm/2599530/product.html

I got her a ring fairly recently - it was kind of a pain in the ass because she put on some weight recently and had to have the ring resized. Think I'm going with necklace this time, just because it's slightly more difficult for her to lose than another ring or bracelet.

Good point, haha. It kind of looks like an engagement ring too. Why I have it, I'd rather not say. It's a nice ring, though.

    Or this one.
    http://www.overstock.com/Jewelry-Watches/14k-Gold-Cultured-Black-Tahitian-Pearl-Necklace/1890173/product.html

Is Ice.com fairly reputable, as far as quality is concerned?

The pendant I got from them was really nice. The chain was really thin though, which might be a problem for your girl.

My bf have recently purchased something from www.jewelleryforer.com and she absolutely loved it. It came with a nice box and a cute card, and ofc the jewellery he had picked out myself. He told me that it came within 2 days, a lot quicker than I expected.
Should check it out. I think they have pearls too, if anything, give them a call.
