The post-apocalyptic movie was On the Beach. Please lock!
I recently had a film described to me that sounds awesome, but the person forgot the title of the film. The premise is that a military submarine was out at sea, and starts getting reports that a nuclear holocaust has happened. They do some checks of the surface conditions, and find that the radiation is so severe that they can't leave the submarine for more than 30 minutes before dying. To further make things worse, they only have a few weeks worth of oxygen left, pretty much condemning them to die. However, they hear what appears to be garbled Morse code coming from a city on the US coast, and go to hopefully find survivors.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? The premise sounds pretty novel, but without a title I'm kind of out of luck finding it.
I've seen this. An American nuclear submarine is fleeing the effects of fallout after a nuclear war and they head to Australia - one of the last places humanity is surviving due to it being furthest from the ground zero points. Unfortunately, it isn't to last because weather patterns are eventually going to bring the radiation to Australia and the level of it will kill everyone there too.
Then they get the garbled message from the US and the submarine is given the task to go and check it out, their reasoning being that people must have survived out there and that the radiation has lowered to a habitable level.
It's a good movie. I forget the name.

It sounds like either the 1959 or 2000 version of a film called On the Beach. Providing wikipedia links for a better insight:
I have the book in my To Read pile, I hadn't realised they'd made a film of it. It's a classic post-apocalyptic dystopian novel by all accounts though.

1959 version.
2000 version.
Is it either of these? They seem pretty close to your description.
Thanks! The 1959 version is spot on. All that's now needed is to rent it and hopefully not get too depressed.
