OUR JOURNEY BEGINS!

OOC Rules and Such:
I expect everyone to try and post at least once a day, preferrably at least two. Else I shall smite you. If held up or are gonna be gone, that's fine, but I do hope we can keep fairly steady progress going. We will be using InvisibleCastle for rolls, and you should post all of them. If someone knows how to make a specific campaign page for our rolls, please let me know.

The Party:

Winterhaven grew up in the shadow of an old keep. Like other similar structures across the land, the keep fell into disrepair when the empire of Nerath crumbled a hundred years earlier. Winterhaven survives to this day, a modest point of light in a world that has grown darker and more dangerous. A scholar named Parle Cranewing has hired your group to locate the old keep and map it. He has handed you ink and parchment and has offered to pay 250gp for a complete rendering of what is left of the keep. As your merry band of adventurers has yet to acquire much of a reputation, you set off to try and earn a name for yourself, and the gold. The group has been traveling for several days and is nearing Winterhaven.

It is a beautiful day as you travel down the road. An occasional ancient cobblestone peeks through the dirt indicating decades of neglect, but overall the dirt road is comfortable and accommodating. Large rocks dot the landscape, some being close to the road, while others dot the trees and hills of the country side. A cool breeze blows past. A variety of footprints indicate that you aren't the only travelers to use this road recently. Unsurprising, given you were told that this is the only major route into Winterhaven. You have passed several caravans and traders along the way.

Rhade, Ba'dhin, Kavaki
You notice that within the varied footprints are a few prints here and there that seem to have been caused by small clawed creatures.

"Gods above, I pity folk who don't travel. What does the Lord Warden have to match the freedom to enjoy a beautiful day on the road?"
Morbin grinned. "Begging your pardon, Ba'dhin, but I don't know much about the worship of Corellon. Do you feel closer to your God on days such as this?"

Guess Ill start us off. For me, Italics are inner thoughts and quotations are speech.
*edit, arg you guys beat me. Probably my longest post of the series, so no more walls of text.

Whew, it's been awhile since marching this long.

The trip so far to Winterhaven was uneventful, save for Morbin's stories at the campfire at night. The dwarf was far friendlier that anybody in Fallcrest had been to him in years. Oh sure, nobody hated Khross outright, but everyone at the taverns treated Khross as an officer before a person. It was good to be something of a nobody to this group. No pretentions, ranks or titles involved.

Rhade was another friendly face at the fire, even if Morbin's jokes made him smirk in disappointment. There had been dragonborn in the militia, so Khross knew that honor, loyalty, and duty were the largest tenets of their kind. I guess being a paladin of THE Dragon makes it more-so, if that is even possible.

Kavaki and Ba'dhin had put Khross off at their initial meeting. He had never seen their kind before this trip, and to twist things further, it was Ba'dhin who joined the group at the fire with stories of the hunt and nature. When Khross offered Kavaki a handshake and greeting, the Barbarian damn near crushed his hand and promptly laughed at the 'town whelp'.Almost broke my hand, the brute. Dad, I know you said to be open to others, but Im not sure you meant all of them.

The party comotion brought Khross out of his thoughts. "Hey Morbin, you've been this way before. How much further to Winterhaven?"

Morbin glances at the tracks, then returns to the conversation. He's not concerned by tracks that small.

With a twinkle in his eye, Morbin answers the Warlord's question. "We ought to arrive as dusk falls. Why do you ask? Ye can't mean to tell me our fearless leader has grown impatient!"

Sorry about the double roll. Trying to get the syntax correct on invisible castle and the first roll looked like code with no result. If you want me to stop dropping names from the DMG, I'll stop and use your world's names, SniperGuy.

Casually walking up to the tracks and looking at them, Khross answers, "Not impatient exactly, just... eager would be the word. So much was lost since the fall of the empire and any bit of knowledge, even a map is a welcome thing. I'll agree Nerath wasn't the most just empire there was, but it was far safer back then."

I haven't noticed anything that would offend me, but if something happens i'll let you know. You're all in a fairly standard DMG world anyway, but I may throw a few flips and curves here and there.

As the group walks along the path, you notice a small bush rustle a bit stronger than it should have, just off the road to the left, a ways in front of you.

    Rhade, Ba'dhin, Kavaki
You hear something that sounds suspiciously like half a sneeze.

"I greet your interest as a welcome change of pace, lately The Protector's teachings have been falling on deaf ears. Truth be told, the woods have always been a more welcome place to travel in, but She has other plans for me. The voice of Corellon carries on this gentle wind, and she speaks to through the blowing grass and the crunch of pebbles on these old stones. I find it a tremendous comfort to know she is all around us, weaving her thread of beauty into the very fabric of the world we travel through." Upon realizing she is working herself into a bit of a frenzy, Ba'dhin manages to control herself and walk toward where Rhade is standing with an apologetic smile towards the dwarf. "Interesting, I wonder who is shares the road with us today?" she remarks as she kneels to examine the road.

As her ears twitch almost imperceptibly Ba'dhin says, "It seems this road has seen the passage of a number of kobolds, and it sounds like at least one of them has received a nose full of pollen from yonder shrubbery." She looks hungrily at the bush and licks her lips in anticipation. "Shall we go investigate?"

Remember everybody, you get +2 Initiative if your within 10squares and can see/hear me.

"Well, if there are kobolds about, we need to be ready for them."

The anticipation, like a crossbow mechanism, begins winding tight within Khross. This is something that manifested during training and before mock skirmishes back with the militia. It was always a small thing back in training, but now, it felt like Khross' insides were knotting ontop of knots. He hoped it did not show to his companions, glancing at Arcturus, he did not understand how the tiefling kept so calm.

Arcturus, silent except for the odd bit of small talk and muttered calculations to himself, analyzes the surrounding lands. He tries to recall if this particular area has a history of attacks or if there have been reports of Kobolds with any frequency. He mutters to himself,

"Kobolds. Should've expected our path wouldn't be completely unhindered."

History check regarding surrounding lands and road.
    1d20+2 = 19+2 = 21

He then picks up his voice so that the others may hear.

"If indeed there are Kobolds on this path, it is our responsibility to eliminate this threat. The next travelers on this path may not be as able to defend themselves as we are."

Your party having stopped, it is almost silent on the road. The light breeze remains, pleasantly brushing by, and a few birds chirp in the distance.

You seem to recall hearing about a few merchants who had stopped coming to Winterhaven along the King's Road (Which you are all aware is the road you're currently standing on) due to kobold raids here and there.

The kobolds respond almost immediatly to the first attack. The one holding a sling runs from his slain comrade and chucks a small object towards Morbin. The dwarf deftly sidesteps and the object shatters onto the rock behind him, spurting a small gout of flame before dying out on the rocks. The two kobolds holding what appears to be large dragonscales in front of them like shields charge towards Ba'dhin, one swinging a short sword that goes harmlessly through the air, the other getting behind her and lancing out drawing blood from the shifter. One of the smaller kobolds runs from the friend that was just cut down and yells out in a strange language before chucking a javelin at Morbin which bites into the Dwarf's calve, though not deeply.

    For Rhade
You recognize the yell as draconic and the kobold yelled, "For Irontooth!" in a high pitched voice.

Outraged that she allowed one of these scaly beasts to get the drop on her, Ba'dhin unleashes a shout ending in what sounds a bit like a roar as she turns to face the kobold unfortunate enough to raise her hackles. As she curses her lack of concentration, Ba'dhin glares at the kobold in front of her, focusing her anger into a white-hot rage. As her spear punctures the kobold's armor, she give it a vicious wrench. The kobold stumbles several feet, only to find itself standing where Ba'dhin had been only seconds before.

A moment too slow to dodge the javelin, Morbin grins as he feels it bite. Shaking his injured foot and stepping away from the nearby Kobold, he thrusts his staff down three times. Each time, thunder erupts around one of his foes, and yet each time, the target critter weathers the blast without reacting. Morbin's grin turns to a frown, and he can be seen muttering to himself.

"For Irontooth? No, for Bahamut!" Rhade roars once more and rushes another Kobald. His imposing size and strength bring fear to the little creature. the Kobalds eyes go wide as a polished long sword pierces his heart and the momentum from the Dragonborn sends the kobalds limp body tumbling backward.

Rhade, turning to his right faces another kobald, and smell of brimstone enters the air as a tuft of smoke puffs up from Rhade's nose. Suddenly, a blast of fire roars from his mouth and engulfs the kobald in horrendous flames. Dropping a charred and unrecognizable corpse to the ground.

Instantly, Rhade turns to one of the larger Kobalds and shouts in draconic "You're next! Bahamut would see you destroyed!"

Arcturus observes his compatriots and notes that not quite all of their bases are covered yet. He runs to a more advantageous position. He changes his grip so that the carved Sun stands at the top of his staff and comes to a stop.

Muttering an incantation, he looks first to the sky, then to the Kobolds hanging to the back of the group. Shooting stars plummet to the ground, striking down the first Kobold. The second, however, is nimble enough to dodge the raining fireballs. The small patch of grass ignites around them, fires blazing.

Move Action: Arcturus moves 6 squares to E7.
Standard Action: Arcturus attacks using Blazing Starfall - burst 1 centered on square C2 (Kobold Minion 1)

Blazing Starfall targets KM1 and KS.
    On KM1, 1d20+4 = 13+4 = 17 = Hit!
    Damage to KM1 = 1d4+4 = 4+4 = 8 = Kobold Minion 1 DIES
    On KS, 1d20+4 = 4+4 = 8 = Miss

In addition, if the Kobold Slinger leaves the burst zone (i.e. becomes no longer adjacent to C2), it'll take 3 fire damage.

The shielded kobolds hop around, ferociously lashing out with their swords and finding purchase every time. The slinger darts down and loads another small object, hurling it towards Rhade. The pot catches the paladin square in the chest and erupts into flame, quickly spreading over the dragonborn.
    Updated Map and Stuff:

KD2 moves to I4, attacks Rhade. HIT. Rhade takes 9 damage and is marked.
KS moves to D3 to attack Rhade. HIT. Firepot, rhade takes continuous damage, and 4 damage. KS shifts to C2
KD1 shifts to G6. Badhin takes 6 damage and is marked by KD1 again.

Of note, you cannot see around the rocks.

Opportunity Attacks: Boo! my rolled OA would have punched a hole in KD2...
Ba'dhin rolls OA vs. KD1 since it shifted from my Viper Strike.

    Move Action: Shift to F6
Standard Action: Nimble Footwork vs. KD1 1d20+5=13 2d10+3=15 Miss!
Minor Action: Inspiring Word to Ba'dhin Ba'dhin gains 7hp
Action Point: Bastion of Defense vs. KD1, 1d20+5=10 3d10+3=20 Miss! Everyone gets +7thp
Reroll Bastion of Defense vs. KD1 (Ba'dhins CD Divine Guidance) 1d20+5=25 CRIT! MAX DMG! KD1 takes 33dmg and explodes Everyone gets +1 to All Defenses!
Well, blew my wad... Go team go! Thanks for the reroll fred!

Khross swipes away whatever punched him in the shoulder and keeps in step with the first dragonshield. Khross made a strong lunge that was deftly parried by the small creature. This is much faster than the training grounds!

"Ba'dhin! Do not falter on this day blessed by Corellon!"

Feeling the adrenaline pulse through him, Khross throws everything he has behind another stab at the Kobold, to be twirled and dodged... "Corellon, guide our hands as we Dance the Blades with our mutual enemy!" exclaimed Ba'dhin.

    time dilates and slows...
    and the impossible happens...

The rule of the world is that cause drives effect. A spear is driven toward its target to pierce the foe's heart.
Not so in this moment as effect drives the cause. It is as if the pierced heart pulled the spear point and guided the cause to it!

Time wrenches back to normality and Khross drives home his spear deep through a very surprised Kobold. They lock eyes briefly and Khross watches the life seep out of the Kobold's eyes, onto his spear and hands.

"THE GODS HAVE SHOWN US THE PATH TO VICTORY!"

    Up next: Ba'dhin!

    RESOLVING TURN ATM
Opportunity Attacks: Khross will OA KD2 since it moved towards Rhade.
Ba'dhin must choose to OA KD2 since it moved, or KD1 since it shifted from my Viper Strike.
    Still working out turn...
None of the kobolds moved, they used their moves to shift, and then shifty to move again. Sorry for not making that clear. Well, except for KS, he moved then shifted. Ba'dhin gets to do the viper strike thing though.

As her quarry is distracted by Khross's actions, Ba'dhin takes the opportunity to lunge at him.
However, he manages to put his shield between the spear point and his ribs just in time.
As she sees her comrade struggling to land a blow on her enemy Ba'dhin calls out to her Goddess "Corellon, guide our hands as we Dance the Blades with our mutual enemy!"

As Khross runs the kobold through, Ba'dhin is swept away in a wave of joy as her prayer is answered so swiftly.
She lifts up a small object hanging from her neck by a leather thong and gives it a soft caress as she surveys her surroundings.

I will have to spin a tale about this, so others may come to follow the Ruler of Arvandor

She smiles at Khross as they turn to face the remaining foes.
OA on KD1 when he shifted due to Khross' Viperstrike 1d20+3= Miss! (and I accidentally entered to roll 2 times, I just used the first roll here )
    Shift to H6
Inpiring Word: +7 hp for me, 7 surges left + 7 thp from BoD = 22+7thp
Use CD power: Divine Guidance for Khross' Bastion of Defense (Khross rolls another attack and can use either of the results)
Excellent work with the reroll. I think it suits me just fine to see my prime target dispatched with such ferocity.

    Go go gadget Minion!
