The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Every experienced DM was once a first timer, and right now that's me. If no one else bites, and you're willing, then I'm willing to give running a PbP campaign a shot. I've had a few small tastes of what it's like on the other side of the screen, and it piqued my interest.
Let me know what you think, I'll respond, etc etc etc
It depends on whether I'm getting involved/selected in the other campaigns that are floating around, though. There are a couple I'm planning to submit character sheets to.
Looking for a DM to start a PbP game to help entertain me during long hours at work where this forum is my only salvation.
If interested, let me know and maybe we can start something up. I chose 4e because it seems to be popular, and shouldn't be hard to find players for.

You sound like just the man you're looking for. Put your situation to good use for the betterment of others and run your own game. If you've got the sort of job where you've got a ton of time to do whatever the hell you want, give DMing a shot.

Well, I'm new to D&D altogether, so I don't think I'm quite ready to run an entire game when I'm not even certain how to properly play a single character yet.
I actually DM'd my first-and-so-far-only D&D campaign earlier this summer, since it was the only way to get my 3.5-to-the-bone friends to play 4e. It actually wasn't that bad, although I was playing with a group that didn't take it too seriously.
I say if you have a cool idea for a campaign and quite a bit of time on your hands you should go for it.
There's a recruiting thread specifically for D&D (I think 4e even) floating around this forum somewhere. You might have to dig back a few pages to find it though.

Nobody really pays any attention to it, though.
Your best bet, really, is going to be playing a waiting game, or make your own game. It's a little rough, but let's face facts here - you're basically asking someone else to spend hours designing, organising and running a campaign for you, for free, because you're bored at work.

True, it's probably just a better idea to lurk in the 4e discussion thread. Generally new games are at least mentioned in there.

I'd suggest just reading Denada's Floating Grave/Dragondeep game in the meantime, as it generally has a very sleek, well-paced narrative among its players and DM.
I suppose there's some other good games to follow here too, like Figgy's KotSF game or Simonwolf's Shackled City.
The Recruitment thread is a bust for new players because: 1) Nobody reads it, 2) Most DMs will just use a recruitment thread, pick the most interesting 4-6 out of 15-30 applications, and turn it into an OOC chat thread. 3) If it's D&D 4e they invariably will mention their game in its discussion thread which will also gauge interest and generate comments. It's mostly been used by people who never browse CF during the weeks that actual PBP recruitment threads are running.
