MacBook Buy?

So I've got a need to buy a new laptop. This one I have has like a 20gig HD and is just terrible for anything I really want to do. Recently I was asked to undertake a big project which will require me to shoot video for a day of a camp, go back and make a video by 10 that night. The alternative plan is to borrow a friend's laptop so I can edit and such on that, but I figure I may as well take a step into this and buy one for myself since I need one for school work and editing.

Any advice on what I should look for? While a laptop would be ideal I just glanced at regular iMacs and they don't seem too big or intrusive that I should overlook one and they're about the same price/more powerful it seems as well as portable for something like I'll be doing in the next week or so.

Thanks in advance.

Basically the tradeoff is the portability for perceived usability. I recently got a MacBook for work (then it was rebranded as a MacBook Pro). I would say pick up the 4 gig MacBook Pro for like 1500. Mine works great for some pretty hardcore programming and processing power.

Whatever you do, don't buy ram upgrades from apple. They charge insane prices for the stuff.

I'd feel pretty ridiculous carrying around an iMac...I don't think that's particularly portable. I'm going with nuclearalchemist on this one. I'm assuming that a slow CPU is part of your problem right? Because replacing the hard drive with a bigger one would be cheap/easy.

Come on iMacs are portable lol. I've heard stories of people putting them on floatation devices in the bathtub.

Well how much portability do you need? For $1499 you can't go wrong with the MacBook Pro nuclearalchemist mentioned if you want portability. Of course for that price you can get an iMac. Slightly faster processor, larger hard drive and a 24-inch screen instead of 13 but that's at a cost of portability - it's a 25Lb computer that's around 20x22x8inches so I don't think you'd want to be carrying it around everywhere.

As for the floatation device in the bathtub, I wish that was a joke but it's not *shakes head*.
