Challenge: Help me remember this game

Oh boy, not much for me to give for anyone to go on, but I must play this one again.

Should be Genesis, SNES era

I remember an early level, if not the very first level, being where you drove a little tank that could shoot orbs in a 180 radius. Before long you come up to a wasp hive, and have to exit your tank to proceed. The boss of this early stage was a large presumably queen wasp that upon defeat, upgraded your little guys rifle to shoot much faster, and also changed the color of the orbs from yellow to blue.

It reminded me of Metroid with its constant upgrade style, but alas im pretty sure its not. I know at some point in the game you get a jetpack, boots that allow you to walk on near blinding lava, and the game had some pretty trippy music too if i recall.

Yep that's defiantly it, shortly after the post i decided to look up top played NES games just in case, and came across the first Master Blaster, thought I was crazy for remembering everything incorrectly despite how much the game resembled the one I pictured.

Its music was a dead giveaway, man after playing that, or in my current case, watching the videos long enough, that music never leaves your head. Miss it though, might have to stop by a vintage game store.

Anyways, thanks to all for the hunt, albeit a short one =D

I'd have to agree, I remember playing this one like crazy when i was a kid, but I didn't exactly have a large library of games, usually just went to blockbuster and tried to find whatever was new or looked fun. I remember hating the music when i was a kid, my opinion hasn't changed much.

I felt the need to redeem myself by bringing up my other favorite (Probably under-rated or forgotten) Sega game

    Thunderforce IV: Lightning Force

Intro-First stage video: Started my love with Gradius style games, damn technology for killing them off =(

The funny thing about the Thunderforce games is they used the exact same sound effects and horridly synthed "voices" in all the games.

Also, the rail gun makes the universal video-game "this isn't hurting what you're attacking" noise, which even as a kid playing them, was awfully confusing.

I just thought everything was immune.
