Ok so here is the deal I just bought a slighty used black berry. Used for 1 week from a friend of mine. The phone was deactivated and the ESN is clear. Well here is what I think the problem is. It is a verizon phone and I am on alltel. Well alltel is now owned by verizon, infact there are no alltel stores in town anymore. They are all verizon. How do I deal with them and get them to activate this phone for me? Usually they dont give a fuck because they don't make any money off of phones outside of contract. I dont want to walk out of the store with this phone not working.. Should I try to call before I go up there?
You should be alright. In my experience, as long as you have a phone that works with Verizon, they'll activate it for you. I don't know if a Blackberry is different, or if they'll make you get a data plan or something, but I wouldn't worry about going into a Verizon store as long as the phone works on their network.
It's worth a shot to call Verizon's technical/customer service, as they're nothing if not helpful.
I don't know why they would tell you to wait until July, that seems silly. Try a different store if you have more available to you, after you call the service number.
Either way, if they said it can be activated, I don't see any reason (save for any Blackberry voodoo I wouldn't know about) why it couldn't be activated now.
Well I went down to the store and the one dude told me everything would work fine by the 11th of next month. So then I call tech support and they activate the ESN and tell me only voice will work. So I went back to the store to turn on the data plan to see if it would work. The dude is like who the fuck activated this phone for you... He turns on the data says data wont work. I respond by saying. Ok thats fine it will work by the 11th and the dude was like.. I don't even know if data will ever work...
So wtf.. I have a verizon phone on an alltel contract owned by verizon. No reason it should not work you just are being lazy.
