Getting a data plan for a smartphone without voice and then using skype?

Is it possible to get a data plan only for a smartphone. Not have a voice plan at all and then just use skype for phone calls?
Thanks.

I don't know where you are, but I know you can't do that in Canada. All mobile service providers here require a basic voice package that the data plan must be added to. I imagine it's much the same in the US.

Not unless you're deaf. It sucks, I'd like a voice-less plan too.

If you could get a data plan only and use skype they would charge you about 100x as much as the voice plan because cellular data is expensive.

    T-Mobile has them.

You could also get one of these suckers from Verizon. $60 a month for a pocketable wifi hotspot with a 5GB limit. If you're using it all day for the phone you're probably going to need to charge it 2-3 times per day or leave it plugged in at your desk, that sort of thing. But you can have up to 5 devices connected and using data at once.
