Today is Fathers Day! The holiday for dads everywhere. Awesome Dads and deadbeat Dads alike gets to spend time with their kids and then get drunk and pass out in the living room.

Today I'm going to brunch with my Grandfather and then out to dinner with my Dad and my other Grandfather. I also bought them all wine because they are drunks.

So SE++, what are you doing today for your Dad?

I'm a broke motherfucker, so I bought my dad a book he'd been wanting and pre-paid for his lunch at work. We work together on Sundays so I made sure all of the shit he has to do for his shift is done so he can sit on his ass and watch the US Open all day.

Pre-Ordered the book "Rocket Men" for him. He's a huge NASA geek.

Just got off the phone with him. He's getting set to go racing today, wind is looking good.

Talked to him a bit about it being the first father's day without his old man.

My mom and I kicked in together to send he and I up to Newport, RI in August for an America's Cup sailing day.

    Hooray!

my dad has MS, so he can't really walk, hold a conversation, or control his bowels, and doesn't want to do any of these things either

he just sort of eats bread and butter or chocolate or biscuits all day in between having sleeps at 11am, 1pm, 3pm, and 5pm

he goes to bed at 7, so i try to make him a proper dinner before then, but it feels so early for me

i got him italian chocolates and prosecco today to remind him of our family holidays and he told me he didn't remember them, and then he ate the chocolate quietly

I celebrated it last night by not getting drunk and driving my drunk not-girlfriend to her place where she did not let me crash and I had to drive home and sleep alone

    Awesome!

Man, this board has a high father mortality rate. Guess I better watch my ass.

I like father's day a lot better since I became one. It's nice for everyone to take a minute a recognize what you do for the family.

My mother became disabled after major surgery to stymie her cancer a few months ago, so I invited her and my father to our house for father's day festivities so they could take it easy. I feel like the torch has been passed, in a way. And I like it.

I'm just speculating here but there was a movement post-American Revolution to sever cultural ties with England, like embracing different spellings and shuffling shit around. I mean, it was kinda defeated by the fact that we still speak the same language and our cultures are pretty much identical so it largely amounted to a lot of needless secessionist prickwaving.
