I know that all files are not compatible between the two, and they are two completely different operating systems. But there is an argument in my work center and because of network firewalls I cant get on the general web to do my own looking. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Sure they can. Both can use ethernet and tcp/ip, so they can communicate with each other just fine. Anything beyond that is up to the software trying to communicate, but in general, there's nothing that you can do between 2 pc's that you can't do between a mac and a pc.

    edit:
If something isn't working, it's a configuration issue.

    1) Compare your web browser's proxy settings to that of the computers that work and make sure they are the same, that's the first place to start.

    2) If they are the same or it still doesn't work after it's the same, make sure you're actually on the network... can you get to other local servers, can you ping the firewall/proxy server, etc.
