Team Fortress 2 Help

Lately I've been a huge tf2 fan, for the last 5 months or so I haven't been able to stop playing it.
UNTIL, about two weeks ago, it just stopped working. Everytime I start it up it goes to the opening screen then just goes to a black screen of which nothing is possible but closing tf all together. I have tried everything reinstalling teamfortress, the orange box, steam, but to no avail.

Has this ever happend to anyone before or does anyone have any Idea on what might help me in my darkest time of need?

    Tried turning off the community overlay (File -> Settings -> In-game tab -> uncheck box)?

    Did you recently update your drivers? Some of the latest drivers for my card made TF2 run like crap, so I downgraded a version.

    Also, if you have other source based games, try running one of them and seeing if they run.

    While we are on the topic. When I boot up my PC, TF2 runs fine. If i put it to sleep and then wake it up again I get video lag when playing TF2. It persists until I restart. I don't really have any leads right now.

    Every game works fine except tf2 portal hl cs everything except tf2 :(

    verify your file integrity. its an option under properties i think
