What's everyone's opinion on this game? I love the Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath type games. Reviews say it's a lot like that but just not as polished.
Was thinking of picking this up as it's about 5-7 dollars used.
I've heard it's a reprehensible piece of trash, but that might just be due to the fact that it had the "Fallout" bit tacked on. It might be a passably mediocre game for all I know.

You might ask in the giant Fallout thread that's very much still on the first page.
Besides, BoS isn't really considered "part" of the Fallout series (being a reviled console-only game in a series almost entirely dominated by PC titles), so most people there are unlikely to have played it.

You'd be surprised. Fallout fans will pretty much try anything with the name on it. Hell, I even played Fountain Of Dreams way back in the day. Clowns. Ugh.

It shouldn't cost you more than 6 dollars, and for that price...it's acceptable. As you said, less polish than one would want, but it works. My cousin checked it out for a bit a year ago and all I remember is that I played a ghoul, and that was kind of neat.
It's bad as a Fallout game, but you could probably have guessed it from the fan reaction even outside of NMA.
On its own, however, I honestly found it to be a fun enough game to be well worth the price that you are finding it for. The customization might not be as the Champions game or the second Dark Alliance, but it's close enough to the first DA that you'll probably still like it. It's the same mindless hack'n'slash, just with a different setting. The co-op is still just as great as ever.

you will get $5 to $7 worth of fun out of this.
I think really, most of the bad review came from those mutants at NMA nerdraging at a fallout that isn't about nifty dialog and difficult life choices.
one thing I'd like to point out is that the music in the boss fights is fucking badass, like I'm rocking out while kicking the everfuckingliving shit out of a 25 foot tall radscorpion with only a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire badass.
I'd say its no better or no worse than any of those dark alliance, ultimate alliance, diablo-like games. Bonus points if you play it in co-op.
Considering I just bought Zelda: Wind Waker for $6, there's much better games to spend your $5-7 on. You just have to look around in places that aren't Gamestop.
As for Fallout:BoS, I played it, didn't really enjoy it, and got rid of it. If you really want an action-RPG/brawler, get something else like X-men Legends or Marvel Ultimate Alliance like UrQuanLord88 said.
Thanks for the feedback. I've got Marvel UA coming in the mail. I've played it briefly before and it's pretty good even though I'm not into comic stuff for a long time.
I've got Baldur's Gate DA 1 and 2, and both champions games. Playing Champions of Norrath right now though I'm totally feeling gimped as my level 10 shadowknight can't beat the orc leader guy. I wish I could grind a few levels first but I don't think you can as bad guys stay dead.
I'm just kinda going back and trying to build a nice hack & slash collection off of Goozex and swaptree mostly.
I love dungeon crawling and loot whoring and all that. I mostly missed out on Xbox and PS2 gen games in favor of PC during that timeframe mostly.
So, nothing good going on for this one at all, even if you ignore the raping of the license?
At the very least, it's still a very solid co-op experience. As I mentioned in the "games that suck" thread, I still don't see why people who like the other Dark Alliance-spawns don't like this one. It's pretty much DA in the Fallout setting.
Outside of the comment about the music, I haven't seen anybody actually say anything about why it's a bad game, just that it is.

The main fallout series has music by Louis Armstrong, The Ink Spots and so forth.
Brotherhood of Steel has music by Slipknot and Killswitch Engage.
I think that pretty much says everything anyone should ever need to know about Brotherhood of Steel.
you sir are a weiner. If you're playing an ACTION game where you kill things would you rather listen to boring music from a bygone era or music that has been scientifically proven to increase your aggression and make you want to kill things?

I thought it controlled poorly, disliked the animations and graphics, and felt that it did a disservice to the setting.

No. Post Apocalyptic setting, yes. Fallout? No. The theme for this game is totally out of sync from the previous two games and can't even be compared to the re imaginings of FO:T or FO3. Music is one factor, the contradictions to the original two games are another.
Also:
*Brotherhood of Steel employed in-game advertisement in that Nuka Cola bottles and even advertising billboards from the original series were replaced with Bawls Guarana bottles and signs
In the end, if you do not care for the story or setting, sure this is just another DA clone for you. But I do think immersing in a plausible story which connects to its predecessors is important and hence I would discourage you from spending anything on the game because there are better games out there.

Yeah it does make me want to kill things. Mostly myself and the people responsible for making it.
I got it for about $10 a few years ago. I'm also a big fan of Dark Alliance. It's definitely not as good as those games, although there are worse games using that same engine (Combat Elite: WW2 Paratroopers, I'm looking at you). I was playing it single player and probably made it about halfway through before I got bored and stopped playing. I didn't feel ripped off, though.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. They replaced the fantastic music from the first two with Slipknot and others like that? They replaced Nuka cola and the billboard ads with actual product placement? Yeeeeeessshhh.
It is a fun game. The humor isn't as good as other Fallout games. The story is mediocre. The levelup mechanic is fun but not as interesting at SPECIAL, IMO. Action in the game is fun and it feels pretty Fallouty. If you can find it for a few bucks, go ahead and buy it. I am not sure how far I would get. There are better games to spend my time on.
Also, the coop is kinda fun. I remeber playing it with a roommate in college for some good laughs.

I'm willing to bet that if this game didn't have fallout in the title, half the people in this thread shitting all over it wouldn't be shitting all over it.
I'm not saying its a good game, I'm just saying that most of the complaints against it are "rabble rabble rabble, they killed Fallout!!!! I have to find reasons to hate this game!"
when really it's just as shitty as any of the other games in its genre.
I still like the music, but was only half serious about my music comments. . .

Probably. It begs the question why even license Fallout at all if you're just going to rape the license and pull all of the enjoyable and recognizable elements out.

I guess because they thought that fans of the series wouldn't care if they raped, desecrated, then plundered all the goodness out.
unfortunately I bet it's a double edged sword, if it didn't have the Fallout, the people in this thread would be shitting all over it because "olol its a complete soulless ripoff of the Fallout IP, give me a new fallout game instead!!"
so one must wonder which would be the better call from the producer's standpoint?

BoS is the awful one and Tactics is the good-but-not-as-good-as-1-and-2 one.
I advise against buying this game because it is trash. I second the recommendations of X-Men Legends/Marvel UA
