Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Spirit Summoner DS or "I can't find shit about this game"
JP Release Date: Nov 30, 2006 US Release Date: Jan 2, 2007
*about 1400 cards (up to Cyberdark Impact)
*Wifi 1v1
I have no idea if you can transfer cards from Dark Troubadour or not (not even sure DT has that option, never played it with a 2nd person).
No idea if you can play vs Japan version.
I'm a big fan of any TCG I can play on the go, and I've always enjoyed Yu-Gi-Oh's simple, distinct yet challenging game play. Though Dark Troubadour got boring after a while (story wise, it ran like shit), I think wifi play will cover any flaws with the game itself.
I used to play the shit out of that game, and I remember getting a GBC version of it (Dark Duel Stories), and feeling ripped off because it didn't have trap cards and spells, if I remember correctly. Also, it was hard as hell to buy new cards.

Dark Troubadour (the last DS game) and the most recent GX games kept to the rules completely intact so there shouldn't be a problem with this one.
I hope Konami's translation staff actually knows what they're doing this time around. The last GX game nearly put Harvest Moon to shame in terms of translation errors and engrish.
My cousins and brother used to collect Yu Gi Oh cards. It always bothered me how crazily random the monsters/spells/traps/whatever were. You had robots, dragons, insects magi... all sorts of shit. I just don't think I could get past it and enjoy the game.

Let's already return. Also, let's not forget that one card had the completely wrong description which made it a bitch to use. It was that deck virus or something. Anyway, I liked the first DS game but goddamn if Joey wasn't the biggest cheating dick in the entire universe. He would NEVER mess up a dice roll or coin flip.
Edit: My translation errors are from Troubador, not the GX game. I missed that part because I'm retarded :P
I don't really have a problem with the wide range of monsters, except that there aren't enough angels. Sorry, fairies.
What I do have a problem with is that GX is about an academy that teaches kids how to play a children's card game. I mean... seriously. How much highly trained cardplayers does the world need anyway?

I don't know, the guys on the cover all seem pretty psyched about it.

Well, gotta think about it in terms of the world. In the Yu-gi-oh universe, the card game is pretty their *insert favored sports game of country origin here*. It's not just a children's card game. It's a world phenomenon.

Sure. I'd also like it if I didn't have to do anything except play games all day.
However, I wouldn't exactly call it a valuable education.

I realise that. But since there are no football academies, no chess universities and no government subsidies promoting ice skating education just yet I'm still having a hard time suspending my disbelief on this particular point.
I've never played Yu-Gi-Oh before. I've always been more of a Magic guy, but I am picking this sucker up on day 1. All I needed to see was the Wifi symbol. I have really been looking forward to an online CCG where you didn't have to buy packs with real money. Now that they have apparently removed the Wifi from Cardfighters Clash, it looks like Yu-Gi-Oh will be the only online DS card game around.

It's an anime designed to sell cards to kids in the real world. It's not meant to make any kind of sense no matter how much you suspend your disbelief.
This looks awesome, but where is Yugi? is this set in that other show I've never watched?
Yeah. Yugi is only mentioned in passing in the new series. I think the most recent cameo was Yugi's grandpa, but GX has little-to-nothing to do with the old characters.

ill probably buy this..
I never asked for this!
Shadowy Bard.
What keeps me from getting this game is my utter raging hatred for the GX universe.
But then again, it's called Nightmare Troubadour.
Not that that makes it any better.
Or if you're wealthy, you could just screw the rules.
If they can make it like the Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged Series shows, I'd buy 2 of them.
that killed the first ds game for me.
Don't make me get my game on all over your face.
I actually kinda like GX for being a nice lighthearted romp and still remaining a bit dark, but I miss the even darker Egyptian ties of the original
Eh. I won't exactly be playing this for the story, or the characters...

I suspend my disbelief though.

Must not be much of a game breaker if no one cares

No, but that's a bit of an exaggeration at best.
By a lot.
Yeah, but like pokemon, it's a game originally designed to attract kids, who like that flashy stuff like battle animations.

Unfortunately not, but I hear green haired players have no trouble screwing the rules.
If the online play is good, I'll buy this in a heartbeat.
Hopefully the game will include some way to trade cards online, or even ante up cards on duels for the winner.
