[Game On] NeoTokyo - RELEASED - A CS, Akira, and Insurgency Orgy
NEOTOKYO is a first person shooter that provides a visceral & realistic combat experience in a rich futuristic setting. It is greatly influenced by our admiration for Masamune Shirow (GHOST IN THE SHELL) and Katsuhiro Otomo (AKIRA), and has been in production since October 2004. To play NEOTOKYO you will need to have a STEAM account, and own the game HALFLIFE 2 or any game that gives you the Source SDK ...
Classes
NeoTokyo has 3 versatile classes:
1. RECON: Fast, Lightly Armored, (15 secs) Thermoptic Camo, Unlimited Sprint, Nightvision, Distance Jump, Det Pack.
2. ASSAULT: Medium Armor, Lesser Thermoptic Camo, Limited sprint, Motion Vision, Frag Grenades.
3. SUPPORT: Slow, Heavily Armored, No sprint, No Thermoptic Camo, Smoke Grenades, Thermal Vision
Why even bother putting in classes other than recon? Going by the features list they spent days coming up with awesome shit to give recon, then were all sitting around going "recon needs someone to kill and hide from, let's make some schmoos"
This is a good birthday present, too bad I won't be able to play it till I get home from work. At least any server download issues should be fixed by then (I'm sure they'll get slammed).

Does look pretty cool though.
They only get one more ability than the other classes, which is a distance jump.
Having maps designed around them using those abilities is kind of a big deal. Also, they get several more options than the Support Guy who is slow and has smoke grenades and thermal vision with no sprint or camo.
I'm just saying giving one class all the fast moving interesting stuff and designing everyone else to be the bitch isn't going to work out very well for variety. At least in the splinter cell games the guards got motion sensors and traps.

What makes you think the other classes don't have something to bring to the table? Have you played the game yet?
Color me extremely interested in this. I'm really digging the music too. It really does have the Ghost in the Shell feel - this is coming from someone who owns all the GitS television series soundtracks (twice over).
Loved the music so much I ordered a CD - sorta felt like I had to support my fellow independent composers. Totally pumped for this, Ed Harrison is the icing on a sweet, sweet, techno-cake.

I really hope this is the beginning of sweet music coming out to accompany every mod. Ho yes.

Even though I already have it for the 360.
Not yet. It's released on friday.
All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.
Heck, the $5 "Half Life 2: Deathmatch" gives you the Source SDK, doesn't it?
Well, provided my system can run it.
It does if you buy it. You don't get the Source SDK if you get HL2: DM free from the ATI or Nvidia deal, though.
Also, I'm excited.
Time to go listen to the soundtrack while I finish up at work!

I've been waiting for this for a few months now based solely on the visual aesthetic, so anything else is basically gravy

I have this weekend off from work starting tomorrow, think I'll be spending a lot of time in-game :P
Those two posts are unrelated yet hilarious.
