The problem with this game is that it requires a time commitment that I'm not prepared to give at this point in time. The demo is quite cool, but I just can't commit to playing, and this isn't a casual game.

Good game tonight! I'm really considering setting up my own freetrack system for ArmA 2 for piloting.
I wonder how expensive it would be in the end compared to TrackIR
    http://www.free-track.net/english/

    FreeTrack doesn't work with ArmA 2 :(

There is a hack, but my understanding is that it doesn't work with MP, has to be updated for every patch, and possibly triggers the FADE protection.

can anyone corroborate this for the north american release?

I'm waiting on a blutooth dongle so I could use freetrack in Arma2. . . it would suck if it didn't work out :_(

It won't work. BI got paid a lot of money by TrackIR to make it exclusively TrackIR.

Not true. Quoting Suma, lead programmer at BIS:
I am sorry, but we are unable to support a device which is very little widespread. There is nothing going "behind", there is no exclusivity for NaturalPoint, but TrackIR installed base seems to be a lot larger that FreeTrack has, which is why we have built in support for TrackIR but not for FreeTrack. Once there will be more FreeTrack users, we can reconsider the support again.

weren't there people using their own camera and stuff with the trackir software? couldn't that work, or I suppose their cameras probably have some sort of signed data they send to the software?

Another session, and once again, I have by far the most luck fighting at close range. I find it much more interesting than trying to snipe from 600 meters away or something...very tense. Also, shooting things with a tank cannon is great fun. <3

It completely desynched the server when we did the multi satchel explosions. We are restarting it now.

Testing is important, Sonar, so if it works we can test it before you spend a ton of time adding prettiness.

Oh no you don't. No sneak peaks. I can test it fine with A.I. squads. Making sure you twats don't go off mission is a different prospect all together. Mine fields of death here we come.

Anyway as far as the basic functionality of the mission goes it's 100%. All that is really left is adding prettiness... and making sure the enemies show up where they are supposed to.

My "simplistic" Cobra strike mission is becoming anything but, not only have a changed the number of gunships from 2 to 4 (since 8 is more likely a number we'd have than 4), but I'm trying to several complicated things.

Plus I'm being a bit... anal about the layout of the airbase. I'm making machingun nests surrounded by sandbags and stuff, for example.

Somebody said in Operation Flashpoint you can make it so that the gun/target reticle thingy wasn't free-roaming but locked to the screen like a normal FPS. How do you do that?

Question, does ArmA 2 have that weapon delay thing like ArmA and OpFlash. Where you move your mouse to the left and a split second later your weapon moves to the left?

If so, then does ArmA 2 also have the option to turn that off so its normal FPS movement?

    Nope, normal FPS.

Well, that is handy. I always turned that off in OpFlash and ArmA. In fact it wasn't until I discovered that option that I was able to enjoy OpFlash.

    Edit:
Several OFP players have reported having entire directories or even complete disk partitions deleted at some point while playing OFP. At first, this was generally dismissed as a general PC error affecting a random handful of players for some unknown reason.
However, On June 12, 2003, BIS admitted that there is a bug in OFP versions 1.75 through 1.91 that can cause this problem under the following circumstances:
If the user creates a multiplayer server in DirectPlay mode and the TCP/IP protocol is not fully supported or is not working properly (e.g., it's disabled under Windows Network settings or there's a firewall disabling TCP/IP).
The problem can never happen when running an OFP multiplayer server in Sockets mode, when playing single player missions or campaigns and when playing under OFP 1.46 and below under any circumstances.
Therefore, in order to avoid the risk of data loss on your PC, BIS strongly recommends that you do not create any multiplayer servers in DirectPlay mode when running OFP versions 1.75 through 1.91.
More information will be presented as details become available.

    Holy crud.

Damnit, making missions is hard, I keep trying to do things I think would be somewhat simplistic only to give myself a headache trying to figure them out. :(

Maybe I'm just being too elaborate. Anyone know how to spawn an aircraft mid flight in the middle of a mission?

Yeah, it was under options. Mouse Float Zone, or Float Zone, or something like that. It has been awhile since last I played. You should see a slider, moving it all the way to the left completely removes that floatiness.

I am easing off on the details. Right now I'm just trying to figure out how to get a very angry jet to spawn mid-mission and fly to the island to blow up the rowdy players/cobra gunships strafing it's airbase.

Oh holy cow the single player starts to kick ass after you
decide to hook up with NAPA after your heli gets shot down and play the first "warfare" style single-player mission. I totally shot a holy man in the back, did some rad cool macguyver shit with some AI that managed not to get killed wholesale, then just rolled over all the other bastards with heavy armor.

Now the next mission briefing popped up and I'm doing that again on a much larger scale. This can only lead to good things.

I should play multiplayer more as well.

Ok for the players wanting discipline, the tactical gamer server is up. You'll need to go to their website for the pass.

You will be kicked for not following orders and jack assery beyond occassional snide remarks. Be warned the more you talk the more likely you'll be put in charge.

    Lots of fun guys.

Now we need to talk ground rules for pa specific missions.

Right now I think we should coordinate specific storylines in order to get missions in the same context.

The story I'm going off of right now is:

Goonra, P. A. Joes arch enemies, have involved themselves inthe chernarus war for unknown reasons. They are disguising themselves as insurgents and since they seem to want to play below the table then so will the Joes, donning the uniforms of the marines already their instead of the normal, outlandish and toy selling neon yellow and pink camo.

Goonra has dug in at the airfield north of Vybor and has occupied several towns surrounding.

Marines are starting a push to clear them out with Joe helping as needed.

That's what Im working on. Anyone wanting to male missions off this storyline is welcome and I invite pms to coordinate missions in an overall campaign.
