Because my old battery would only play while plugged in, I dropped the 11.99$ today on a new battery for my 360 Play and Charge kit.
Come home, throw in Ghostbusters, and the new battery. Lo and behold, it's sitting here, spinning (the "charge me!" spin), with a green light on the cable.
I can control the game, but start and the guide button don't work. Everything works fine with the old battery, long as it's constantly plugged in.
My only guesses would be to make sure the battery's contacts are in good shape and clean, and that you might let the thing charge for a while. I've never heard of anything quite like having specific buttons not working without being physically worn or broken.
If you do try to fully charge it, come back to the battery and see how it's doing, like, 15-30minutes into the charge. If it's really hot to the touch, then you've probably got a bum battery.
I kind of have a similar problem with my play and charge battery. I can play while wired into the 360 and I can play if I use regular old batteries. Now if I try to charge the rechargeable one I get just seconds where it looks like it's charging but then stops and if I disconnect the cable later it still hasn't charged. So now I either play with AA batteries or just it wired. Do the new chargeable batteries generally work well?
Oh, and I don't have any of the button issues that the OP has, just the inability of it to charge or hold a charge.
