So I was just hired into a small NGO office running an exchange server. I'm probably the techiest guy here, but I'm no server admin.
We're running exchange 2003 and I'm just wondering if there's some sort of delay between changing a log-on username on the server and the one you'd use on a machine?
I'm kinda lost here. As we've changed someone's username on the server but it won't allow us to use it to log in.
How many GCs(Global catalogs, runs on a DC) are there in the Exchange site? If there is more than one, then replication will need to take place. But even if there are just a few, replication shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes at most.
To be clear, which attribute did you change?

Assuming they logon to the domain there shouldn't be much of a delay. Rebooting the client or waiting 15 minutes should result in them being able to logon to the domain with their new username.
What is the exact error at winlogon? Do users logon to the domain or their local machines? Also, did you change the username or the display name? If you changed the display name they can still logon with their old username and you'll have to go back and change the username.
Thanks for the pictures Djeet, thats what I was curious of aswell.
Also, is the user having problem logging into windows, or logging into their mailbox via Outlook?

Sometimes when you make changes to active directory it takes a few minutes for the data to propagate over to other servers and through the directory itself. If the office is small and it's anything more than about fifteen minutes you've got another problem entirely.

I don't know the tech behind it, but it's happened to me.

Tried that. Sorry I didn't mention it.
classically, Outlook should go to the network credentials first to login to exchange...
Try making the passwords identical for the two and see what happens?

Trouble logging into windows and I have changed the User Logon Name in the second picture. That's the one that controls the windows log in no?
But the problem may be solved as we can log in to windows now and the person who I need here to do anything needs to go home. But alas weird stuff.
