Alright im leaving a trip to Costa Rica, being stupid I waited until the last minute to book my passport due to money issues. Then I realized I do not have my birth certificate... I can't find it... Im leaving in about a month. I need this shit quick... Please for the love of god point me in the right direction on where I can get both done quickly? I was born out of the state of which I currently live in.

Living in Minnesota
Born in Pennsylvania

Thanks in advance

    Pennsylvania state fee = $30

It looks like it takes a few days to process the request, and I would imagine would take a few days to get to you.

They've also got a shipping fee and processing fee, but judging your circumstances, I'd say it's worth it. :)

    This seems valid enough:

Yup, you're going to have to call the county clerk where you were born, request a certified copy of your birth certificate (and tell them to rush it).

Then, you're going to have to rush processing on your passport.

If you think you didn't have money to be able to afford to get your passport without rushing it, I'd suggest bending over. Don't expect lube.

As everyone said, it's fairly easy to get a priority request on a passport but expect paying a bit extra.

    Funny story.

A day before my friend headed off to Ireland he managed to lose his passport and his plane tickets. Hillarity ensued. He paied a butload to get them reissued to him but he got on the plane.

I don't know if this is still applicable in a post-9/11 world, but I booked a Spring Break trip down to Mexico without having a passport. When I got to the gate, they wouldn't let me board my flight (even though I had driven into Mexico and back without a passport). There was a guy in the airport who could do a certification that I was a citizen, and that's what I had to present at customs on the way back.

Maybe it was just a racket they had at LAX, or maybe it was because I was only going to Mexico, but that was what worked for me.

I highly advise calling the general passport hotline number and making sure you know all of the document requirements you will be subject to. Make sure you know what it takes for them to accept a birth certificate copy, where you can go to do the passport application and pick-up in person to save the trauma of waiting for urgent documents in the mail, etc.

Good luck. Its one of those things that is just a pain in the ass sometimes.

Unfortunately, western cultures frown upon arranged marriages, so the vast majority of people have to take risks in order to get into relationships.

Yeah...that wont work anymore. Even up to the last couple of months you could travel to some US owned islands without a passport but that's done now. Passport is needed to reenter the country no matter where you go.

Also, make sure that whatever you do, do NOT get the type of birth certificate that has like a "gold seal" on it or anything. That's the "congratulatory" certificate that they give to parents and such, and is not considered an authentic version.

I'm assuming they don't give you those copies, but I've never had to request a duplicate, so I'm just throwing that out there.

Vital check is really good, and they have 2-day shipping (it takes them a day or two to get the document), they are really fast though. Probably your best bet.

It usually takes 6 weeks to get a passport.

Expedited is an additional $60 plus whatever shipping is. I think that takes 2 weeks. So you should make it but apply as soon as you get that birth certificate.
