Yeah so I suck at off-beat titles. So in a blaze of inspiration, I've decided to forgo the following plans:
Take trip from S. Oregon to S. Cali, show gf where I grew up, see old friends and family, and propose sometime during trip. This would occur sometime in the fall.
To now deciding that: since gf can get no time off, conveniently has 3 days off in a row next week, and we were planning on going on a vacation to the beach anyways, well fuck it I'M JUST GONNA PROPOSE THEN! And my mind is still kinda reeling. It went from an idea bouncing around in my head last night, to me taking the first big step by asking my boss for the days off next week (so the vacation could be 3 days, not 2), and having to tell him why. And then ask him to keep it under wraps, because my nursery co-worker is a close friend but extremely emotional and would start crying next time my gf dropped by. Now I can't look back. I gotta do this. I'm not afraid to do this. But I am nervous as fuck.
I almost went to her parent's house tonight to ask her dad's blessing. Then decided it'd be better to call first. Got the impression they were kinda busy, since they're packing for a camping trip over the weekend (gf not going, has work). Okay, fine, I'll wait until they get back on Sunday and are well rested and such.
Still: nervous as fuck.
So: who here's married? Who here's engaged? And if anyone has any sage advice other than "Don't do it man! (you kind of guys can fuck off)", just throw it out there.

I'm gonna be extra-classy-cheesy, buy a scallop shell at some arts and crafts store. Whenever we're on the beach, we usually end up walking apart, eyes glued to the ground for stuff. So I'll just holler over that I found a good one, give her the shell and get on one knee. Genius!
Hey, at least I get to ride jet boats up rapids on this trip. Nothing can stop me from that!

to be honest, i'm happier
ain't a slam on the idea of marriage or nothing
it's just the relationship i was in was a bad call and we were wrong for each other and i'm glad it is over and that we didn't go farther
