The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Arx Fatalis (lat. "fatal fortress") is set on a world whose sun has failed, forcing the above-ground creatures to take refuge in subterranean caverns. The action in Arx takes place in one of these large caves, where inhabitants from all races such as Trolls, Goblins, Dwarves, Humans, etc. have made their homes on various levels of the cave. The player awakens inside a prison cell and, after making his escape, eventually discovers his mission is to subvert and imprison the God of Destruction, Akbaa, who is trying to manifest itself in Arx.
It's pretty bad, but it's not bad enough to bring down the rest of the game.
I think this is the only game I've played where I've found being a magic-using character fun. The rune system is the perfect way to make up for the simplicity of standing back and spamming fireballs at monsters. I never did finish the game though, mainly since my first character was melee-reliant, which worked great up until
The human city gets overrun by Ylsides. They're just too resistant to physical damage to get by that point without decent casting ability.

I never played more than a few minutes of this because it wasn't Morrowind. I need to find my copy.

I love this game, it's one of those I pick up once in a while. There's always something new to do. And the setting of this game is pure fucking fantastic!
Well, yes and no. You might have missed my other thread about a month and a half ago, which was pretty much this minus any discussion. That didn't go to well. It's a Game On because hopefully this will encourage other people to try/retry the game and maybe tread some new ground.

How do you install that texture thing? Just put the GRAPH folder in the main install folder?
I made the mistake of making an archer/spellcaster.
I do believe there is only one bow in the entire game, other than one secret bow. So once you've got that bow and the best armor you can buy at the store, there's really no reason to make money anymore. And one of my favorite things to do in any CRPG is steal. Once the thrill of that went away, I started getting bored.
And fireball is more effective than using bows anyway.
So I didn't even get to use my bow much because it made so much more sense to spam fireballs.
And the secret "best bow in the game" just shoots fireball anyway.
I also don't like how reliant the magic system is on the three spells you can reserve. You basically can't win a fight if it requires that more than three spells be cast in succession and you don't have a weapon. And since my bow started lagging behind in terms of damage, boss fights were terrible because I'd cast my three spells and the thing wasn't dead yet, so I'd have to kill it with arrows which takes fucking forever.
That's why you keep a couple scrolls handy. Or get used to being able to run away and draw runes at the same time.
The bow isn't great, but it seems like a decent compliment to a rogueish, stealthy type. I think bows can benefit from the backstab crit bonus, and it's a good way to peck away an enemy's health as they're running to you, since you'll probably not be especially good in melee combat.

Mage/Thief is really the only way for me to go in this game. After the first level or two, spellcasting becomes my primary method of killing badguys. Hardly ever had to draw a weapon, but several key fights required I use the secret spells in order to win.

Unless you get your hands on a poisoned dagger, then it just becomes *stab* and run away. I especially like sneaking up on unsuspecting Ratmen and backstabbing them with their own weapons.

I played the game at least twice and I've never gotten past that part.

God.
Yeah, it should replace all the missing textures (most anyway, I haven't noticed any missing textures).

You mess with the dolphin, you get the nose.

Morrowind is on Steam now, buy it again (like I did).
