I made the GOP thread, but we aren't supposed to make GOP threads. There's a Bachmann thread that is dying off. Let's just keep it here so we can all laugh about how completely inane that "speech" was, together.
If she were just not seeking reelection in 2010, I'd think she sees the writing on the wall, and didn't want to tarnish her record with a defeat. Actually stepping down before time, though... scandal coming down the line maybe?
TPM still thinks scandal, and if Mitchell's report that I've mentioned several times is true, a pretty fucking big one. I'm hoping for the she was sleeping with Todd's business partner rumors are true, which would give us three straight Fridays for Republican sex scandals.

The MSNBC commentator is basically saying (dripping with sarcasm), "I'm sure we can't understand her brilliant strategy because we're all Washington Beltway types and not outsiders like her."
But then again, according to the embedded reporters from Newsweek, she actually had the gall to have her husband call up big Alaskan donors (during the campaign) and tell them to save their money until her own presidential run. McCain was livid, IIRC. So the idea that she's doing this out of pure megalomania is not, unfortunately, out of the question.
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that she is doing this out of pure megalomania. The only other way this makes any sense is some huge scandal waiting in the wings.
Well, I'm not going to say a scandal is out of the question and it's not as though she doesn't have her share of dirty laundry.
On the other hand, from what I read about the campaign the only people that were really behind her VP selection were either a) tired McCain staffers who said "Hell with it" because doing something unexpected was basically their only chance to win or b) crazy people who would later become the crazy Palin people we all got so familiar with last year.
Presumably the people backing/planning/advising her 2012 are from the latter category, and since they're crazy, it's not impossible that they're doing this because they're so removed from reality that it seems like a good idea somehow. I don't know how it could seem like a good idea, though.

GOP thread got locked and everyone immediately tripped over themselves to make a palin thread.
Which one are we using? This one? ok great.
So, is this going to mean a costly election to give Alaska a new Governor? Will it anger the people?
Honestly I don't think Palin has any chance on a national ticket. Could she be planning to run as a senator or something silly like that?
Being Alaskan I have a special attachment to the topic
Anywho, as I said in the last thread, there was a poll from back in January about a Murkowski vs Palin Senate race, and Murkowski was winning by a massive percentage percentage. 57 to 33.

Saw this on FOX News with the wife and family. This will mean big fund raising for herself and the GOP in 2010. To all the Palin haters on the Left & Right all we can say is...

Ahahahahaha. Yeah, she was so effective at that last November.
Sean Parnell, Republican. But one who challenged the unbelievably corrupt Rep. Don Young in a primary and almost unseated him.

It's probably either:
1) Incoming scandal
2) Starting her presidential bid campaign early (book tour, talk show, etc.)
Either way, it's going to be hilarious. If she makes it out of the primaries (which I seriously doubt), Obama will destroy her in the election. The only people who will support a strategy of #2 are the wingnuts who support her now. The "moderate" Republicans and us independents already wash our hands entirely of her, and honestly, this type of behavior just reinforces our judgments.
If I were a Democrat, I would seriously hope she is doing #2. Focus on strategy, not tactics.

I will look forward...to a campaign filled with a record breaking number of gaffes.

More than a few Alaskan's felt burned by Palin, whereas Murkowski literally has yet to do anything to piss the public off.
So where exactly is she going to be elected to?
If she isn't going to win in Alaska or nationally....she's going to blow a shitload of campaign money on something and then go home with her tail between he legs and fade into anonymity?

Similarly, they vote against Sarah Palin. Check out these graphs.
Top is the McCain-Obama race, middle is the economy, third is the favorable/unfavorables of the four President/VP nominees. Note the Palin favorable/McCain horse race correlation.

...My god man.
You expose your family to Fox News? Willingly?
But in all seriousness, I wouldn't be surprised if she were fed up with polotics in general. Considering where she started from, and then the whole 2008 Election insanity, legal problems back home, kids acting up, Liberal media laughing at her, etc why would she want to continue?
Heh, I wonder if Letterman was the staw that broke the camels back.

Okay, so people are saying "incoming scandal." What do we know about her that could count as bad enough scandal to make her step out of the public spotlight (if that is what she is trying to do)?

Edit: Gos, the reason she made a tortured point guard analogy is because that's the position she played.

No, she was excited to do this.

So she is still crazy.

The current Lt. Governor is Sean Parnell, who narrowly lost to congressman Don Young in last years republican primary.

I hope so!
In other words, it's blank?
Let's be fair, there's a couple of paragraphs there
About 400 words, according to MS Word
I miss the old days. Back when everyone thought we lived in Igloos and Europeans thought we were cooler than normal Americans.

Although to be fair, "Sarah Palin And The Rape Kits" still sounds like an awesome name for a punk band.

Because if she is I'm not sure I can stand watching the Youtube video
If her behavior hadn't been so stupid and erratic in the past I'd think there would definitely be a scandal about to break
