help with drink recipe

I'm trying to recreate a drink from Azteca called a mar azul. Their menu says that it has citrus vodka, melon liqueur, triple sec, blue curacao and sweet and sour mix. I don't know if it has anything else that wasn't listed. My first attempt wasn't very close, using about 1.5oz each of the vodka, melon and sweet and sour, and 1oz of the triple sec and blue curacao. It was too sweet, so I added some more vodka and watered it down, which made it a bit better, but still not really something you would want to drink. I don't have a lot of experience mixing drinks, so I don't really know where to go from here. Anyone have an idea of how to make a drink with those ingredients, or know someone who works at an Azteca who could find out for us?

Google "blue ocean drink recipe". Mar Azul is just blue ocean in a different language. I see a few different recipes for it though, but they all give amounts for each liquor.

I've tried searching for both blue ocean and mar azul, but haven't found anything that matched the ingredients this drink has. Did find a couple that looked good, but not the one we're looking for.

Just going off guessing by the ingredients, the primary one is going to be the vodka. Sweet and sour, triple sec and melon will probably each be 1/3 the amount of vodka you use. Blue curacao is most likely just for the coloring. So use a shot of vodka, 1/3 of a shot each of melon, triple sec and sweet and sour, then enough blue curacao until it's a similar color to the one you drank. Worth a shot at least.

Sounds like a blue lagoon, which is just vodka, blue curacao and lemonade (or sprite).

You'll probably be able to make a similar (maybe even better) drink to the one you had with less ingredients.

Your first attempt had far too much alcohol in it.

    1 oz Vodka
    2 1/2 oz melon liqueur
    2 oz Sweet and sour
    1 oz blue curacao
    1 oz Triple sec

    Try that.

Are you not mixing anything in there? That looks like it's going to taste like cough syrup.

That is a ton of liquor and probably wrong. I'm guessing something like 1 1/2 - 1oz of vodka and 1/2 to 1/4 oz of each other ingredient with a good 2oz or so of sour mix (which is disgusting by the way, just make your own. Equal parts simple syrup and lemon juice). Are you sure it doesn't have any soda or sprite in it? Most of those foo foo drinks are not straight alcohol.

Also, learn to drink like a man.

I tried adding water to the first one I made, and it did improve it a bit. I've never actually had this drink, I'm just trying to recreate it for my wife, so I only have her description to go off of. They do serve it in a pint glass, so it must be mixed with something. She says it isn't carbonated, so I don't think they are adding anything like 7-up or club soda, but I'm not sure what else they would use. Maybe lemonade like that blue lagoon recipe.

The recipe that matthasaproblem posted was pretty good, definitely closer than my first attempts, but still off a bit. Probably just needs the right mixer added.

If it's in a pint glass, they have to be adding something that takes up most of that space. A pint glass full of liquor, even with ice in it, would be like $90 the way most restaurants and bars charge for liquor. Plus it'd be 10-12 shots which tends to put people into the 'alcohol poisoning' category if they drink it quick. Maybe try adding lemonade?

It's sour mix that's taking up the non-alcohol space. Ghetto lemonade basically. Also, the filler is NOT water. No cocktails use water as a mixer. None. Unless you're talking mixing a splash of water with sugarcubes for Old Fashioneds, Juleps, Mojitos...

Curacao is triplesec with food coloring. So use it instead of triplesec, not together with it.

Also, in most mixed drinks the main ingredient (citrus vodka in this case) will be about 1 ounce, all secondary ingredients (melon liquor and the blue curacao) would each be about 1/2 ounce, and then sours will usually be about 2 ounces. If the drink is served in a rocks glass, that's probably the entire recipe. If its served in a tall, its probably filled with sprite/7up (just a guess based on the ingredients Op listed.)
