Former Titans quarterback Steve McNair has been killed. Police said McNair suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head in downtown Nashville.
The incident happened near 2nd South & Lea Avenue. A female victim was also found dead.
According to Don Aaron with the Metro Nashville Police Department, no suspects have been taken into custody. Several people were being taken to police headquarters for questioning.
I am shocked.
Steve McNair was the face of the Titans for many years, and had more guts than any other player I've watched. I'd say more, but I'm just speechless.
I PMed you to update the NFL thread, not make a new one! I could have done that!
Either way, this is a shocker. McNair was a rock solid guy in the NFL from the time I got into football until 2 years ago. He was the face of the Titans and made the transition from the Oiler's to the Titan's easier. He gave the Titan's an identity. When you thought Tennessee, you thought Air McNair. He was cast off towards the end of his career by the team, a mistake they probably regret now.
Responsible for one of the biggest "What If" plays in Super Bowl history.

what the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
edit: Does CNN even know this happened? Right now they are interviewing some guy who gave Michael Jackson a stick of gum one time 15 years ago. All these recent major news stories have seriously led me to question CNN's capabilities as a responsible news source.
So with multiple shots in him and one in her I'm thinking it was her that killed him, assuming the absence of some sort of intruder. Sad.
Edit : In the time it took me to post this they updated the article, it originally said he had multiple gunshot wounds.
yeah, the CNN article mentions the multiple gunshot wounds and this.
Asked whether the shooting was a murder-suicide, Don Aaron, spokesman for the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department, said investigators have not classified the incident yet. He said investigators have not ruled out anything, but added they were not "actively looking at suspects" Saturday night.
But yes, very shocking news. Speculation we heard on CNN was that the female involved was not his spouse?
I don't know if he was actively separated from his wife or what, but he didn't tried to hide his girlfriend (reports are saying it was her).
He went to events with her and was affectionate with her at those events.
My uncle actually met him and his girlfriend at an event a while back (he's a promoter for an alcohol company) and mentioned to the security chief that McNair's wife was really hot, only to be told that wasn't his wife.
Holy, Shit.
I wasn't a Titans fan, but I remember some good memories watching him play.
I'm gonna guess she got super pissed/anxious about the DUI thing and a combination of Steve not actively divorcing his wife which made her go batshit. Anyone that actively admits to being high to the Cops is obviously a little fucked up.

As a ravens fan, we don't regret it at all. I know he wont ever be synonymous with Baltimore like he was with the titans, which is to be expected, but he was the first quality quarterback we had since, well, Dilfer was good enough to not screw up, and Testeverde wasn't too bad, so basically yeah he was more or less our first quality quarterback. He seemed like a really stand up guy. I did have the unique pleasure of listening to ESPN radio on the way back from a cookout. Those douchbags were actually debating on if he will be inducted into the hall of fame. I could be wrong, I just thought it was kinda crass, but who am I?

ESPN radio is intolerable considering their print and tv is so great, but I don't think they were doing it out of disrespect. I think it was a reaction trying to get away from maybe going into too much detail and instead an attempt to discuss all the things he was able to do with his career.
Sad to seem him go. He was one of the few QBs I loved to watch on a consistent basis. He also gave us one the best superbowls ever even though his team lost.

That's what happens whenever a high caliber athlete dies or retires or whatever.

Interesting choice of words.
Also, is it ironic that when I looked at this the thread directly under was: "Let's talk about guns!"?
Steve McNair fans wanting to pay their respects to the former NFL quarterback will be able to at the stadium where he created so many memories.
The Tennessee Titans are opening LP Field Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fans can leave personal messages in a book that will be given to the McNair family. Video boards will show McNair highlights and a photo mural of his career with the Titans will be on display.
The ticket office also will be accepting donations to the Steve McNair Foundation.
Classy.
In other news..
Tennessee's state medical examiner said Tuesday that investigators have been hesitant to conclude that Steve McNair's girlfriend killed the NFL star and herself because she didn't appear to have a motive, but that murder-suicide is the most likely scenario.
Newspaper this morning left me with the impression that he was basically playing sugar daddy for her, so that she would kill him seems... weird. I guess we'll probably never know the whole story though.

Well, I think we can make tentative guesses at it based on the events now on the timeline. I'm not sure it's very productive to do so, but...hey, PA.
I'm not a mind-reader, but I don't have to think all that hard to see it as something along these lines assuming the most likely scenario:
- They have fun times
- She gets DUI with him riding shotgun.
- She goes to station, he walks (though he is gentlemanly enough to pay for the lady's bail).
* This is the hazy part, but something about the situation here is what makes her snap.
- She buys a gun that night.
- Two days pass where she is either working herself up to it or their personal situation worsens.
- pewpewpew
She may have felt wronged somehow, or he may have said something to discount their relationship during the police interaction, or there could have been an argument after the fact. Whatever it was, it led to the subsequent events.

That was my first thought too, especially after that Benoit fiasco.
edit: why couldn't it have been Favre?

First reports I read had it the other way around, actually, but that angle has since been pulled.
KSK shares my sentiment at least. And seriously, I would've traded Favre's life straight up for McNair.

Anywho. I was never a Titans fan, but I always loved watching Mcnair play. This sucks.
I think you'd have to sweeten the pot if you're trading Favre for McNair. At least throw in some cash considerations.
This is pretty shocking, though. The Titans/Rams Superbowl is definitely one of the five best I've seen. That finish!
