Want to build/buy some costume samurai armor, where to start?

Okay, so, I have a photo project in mind. One of the things that I'll need for it is some fake samurai armor that looks pretty good.

Basic facts:

-I'm not opposed to repainting it if I buy something.

-Needs to hold up a good bit. I intend to re-use this thing a good few times, so while cardboard built rigs are acceptable, something held together with paper and prayers probably isn't.

-I mainly need to cover the torso, shoulders, and possibly arms. While legs too would be nice, it's hardly necessary.

-I'm...Not entirely skilled at building things, I'll be honest. I'm not an utter spaz when you put a Dremel in my hands, but I'm not exactly silver age Superman, either. I can do something where one just needs to be careful and it's a complex setup, but probably not things where the basic elements are hard to produce.

-If it's adjustable, super awesome but again, not necessarily NECESSARY.

-I'm broke. Like, super broke. Let's say less than $20 as a soft limit, and less than $50 as a hard I cannot afford this end of discussion limit.

-I might hold off until the fall for this due to the heat, but I REALLY don't want to wait for the Halloween stores to roll around, so sitting around and waiting for them isn't an option.

Now, given all that, what would you guys say my main options are? I already know about the Indy Mogul armor, and while I might go for that if nothing better shows up, the results they got looked a touch...Sub-par and in need of improvement. I have some ideas for that already if I can't find a better option, but that's for another thread, or at least an update to this one.

Thanks for all the help you can offer, guys! Also, look ma, no angst! :D
