edited July 2009 in Help / Advice Forum
Hello everybody!

I'm an avid TV viewer, who spends a lot of his free-time watching television but I am at an impasse: I have run out of good tv series to watch, so I come to you H/A to recommend me some that I might be interested in watching.

I'll watch most things, with the list of what I do watch/have watched being quite long so don't let genre hold you back!

Heroes, Lost, Stargate: Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate SG-1, Supernatural, Dead Like Me, Farscape, 30 Rock, Weeds, Californication, Dexter.

Thanks everyone :)

With the exception of Babylon 5 and Black Books, I've seen all of those.

How is Black Books, is that really good?

You're tastes appear to be similiar to mine OP, as I have seen almost every show listed there. So I have to recommend; The Shield, Rescue Me, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Two and a Half Men, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Sanctuary, Eureka, Monk, and Psych.

I can't think of anything else on my Tivo's season pass list at the moment, so I may have more to add later.

Twin Peaks is still (with the exception of a few iffy episodes in the second season) the finest television series ever broadcast.
Go track it down if you haven't already.

Carnivale is also pretty interersting, though fails to end properly (prematurely cancelled).

If you're looking for something lighter, consider giving the new Dr Who a shot, or Pushing Daisies.

You haven't mentioned if you have or not, but..Firefly is awesome. Actually, pretty much everything by Whedon is good tv. So throw in Angel, Buffy, Dolhouse(that one is just coming out on DVD soon) and definately Dr. Horrible.

Burn Notice I like, as well as Royal Pains.

    I know this seems a bit off topic...but I love M*A*S*H

If nothing else it'll take a while to watch all of it. Eleven seasons I think.

A couple of recommendations you're likely to have already seen:
    - Animated: Futurama, Mission Hill
    - Brian Fuller (the dude who did Dead Like Me): Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies
    - Joss Whedon: Firefly, Dollhouse
    - Arrested Development

I'll also offer one last quirkier recommendation: jPod. It's based of of the Douglas Coupland book of the same name; it follows a team of game developers at a company-that's-not-EA as, well, crazy shit goes down. It's pretty out there - the main character has a June Cleaver-type mother who's a pot grower, a wannabe-actor dad who used to ballroom dance professionally and is best friends with a Chinese mafia kingpin, and a cougar-chasing brother. It only lasted one season, and it only aired in Canada, but I love it. You can buy the DVD off of Amazon.ca (they ship to the US) or stream the entire series on thewb.com

Also Trailer Park Boys is very funny and well worth a look.

Ahhh yes, Firefly. Such a sad end to such a brilliant show.

I thorughly enjoyed Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls, but not exactly the kind of series I'd talk to my male friends about if you know what I mean ;)

I've been recommended True Blood and The Shield, so I;'ll give them a go. And definitely Dollhouse as well now, thanks :)

The thing about Dollhouse is that it gets better as it goes on. If you slog through the decent-to-mediocre first five episodes, you get the reward of the utterly fuckawesome other seven episodes (I actually thought the second-to-last episode was better than any of the Firefly eps).

It's been off television for awhile, but OZ is really good if you can stomach the prison brutality. In the animated area Frisky Dingo was fairly entertaining, but both seasons will only run a total of eight hours or so. Also, I feel like I need to repeat a few that have already been mentioned. Psych and Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia are excellent and should be watched.

    The Pretender
    Party Down
    Harsh Realms
Also I'll second Psych. The best comedy banter on tv right now.

Party Down is from the dude who did Veronica Mars and has a lot of the Mars cast as characters or cameos.

The Pretender was a 90s drama/action show with ongoing convoluted plot lines and twists contained within story-a-week episodes. It would have done better if it had come out later. I love it.

Harsh Realms was done by Chris Carter (X-Files) and had a really cool scifi plot and some quality actors. It lasted about 3 episodes. Youc an pick up the whole season on dvd though.

See what I did there? I actually read the thread and saw what had already been mentioned and what the OP has already seen. Really difficult to do.

In the animated department I would recommend Deathnote. Its a very different type of anime more psychological than action oriented, and no giant robots or superpowers..well if you count a notebook of death as a superpower. Also Ghost in the shell: Stand alone complex and 2nd Gig
