“This effort is going to make it possible to introduce a whole new generation of gamers to
LucasArts’ classic games,” said Darrell Rodriguez, president of LucasArts. “It also gives
more people a chance to play our games by making them available long after they’ve
disappeared from store shelves. We hope our fans are as excited as we are about our
plans and we can’t wait to share what’s coming next. This is just the beginning.”

This series of launches continues LucasArts’ new mission to revitalize its deep portfolio
of beloved gaming franchises.

LucasArts previously announced the return of the classic Monkey Island® franchise with
two new projects due to be released in the near future. Tomorrow, July 7, Telltale will
premiere the Tales of Monkey Island® game series on PC, delivering a completely new
epic storyline and swashbuckling flair that will unfold across five monthly episodes. The
first Tales of Monkey Island chapter is expected to release for WiiWareâ„¢ in the coming
weeks as well.

The Monkey Island celebration continues on July 15 when LucasArts publishes The
Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, a completely re-imagined version of the first
game in the series that adds updated high definition graphics, a re-mastered musical
score, and full voiceover to the classic adventure game originally launched in 1990. The
Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition will be made available on Xbox LIVE® Arcade
for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and PC via
Steam and other online distribution channels.

Future announcements about the re-release of LucasArts’ back catalog titles will be made
through LucasArts’ Twitter feed at http://twitter.com/lucasartsgames.

I was just about to make this thread.

    :^:

Edit: I'm disappointed with how much the Lucasarts Twitter page was hyping up adventure games, there is a distinct lack of adventure games there. Or at least the big ones... Full Throttle? Day of the Tentacle? Grim Fandango? :(

Ah ha, that was the huge announcement they teased on Twitter. I already own The Dig, but Loom and Indy are so bought. Shame Full Throttle or DoTT isn't on there, though. I suppose they'll add them later.

I'm ashamed to say I've never played KOTOR. I was thinking about picking it up soon during a school lull but now I wonder if I should wait and see if it pops on Steam.

@Captain Eleven - I think a new Lucas Arts space sim on those games is WAY overdue.

Atlantis is one of the few point and click adventures that still sticks with me after all these years. I think I'll be heading back there next week! Part of the nostalgia is remembering that is one of the first games I bought for the PC that had sound. Yeah, it was crappy MIDI, but it was better than the PC speaker squawks I had suffered up to that point.

I'm excited by proxy for people over the Steam news, but I don't have a PC at home. :( Still, the Monkey Island special edition on XBLA for the 15th is pretty big fucking news! And that runs right into the Summer of XBLA promo, so I'll happy be shoveling money there for the rest of the year. Though that might mean the Tales of Monkey Island series hits WiiWare the same week as the XBLA version of SE ... Monkey overload.

Oh shit! From that Joystiq interview:
When asked about the possibility of portable ports, notably the iPhone or PSP Go, Rodriguez noted, "On iPhone, you know Apple's policy that we can't talk about a release until it's ready to release. But it would make sense that we would do something like that if we were to go in that direction ... wink wink, nod, nod." As for PSP Go, he told us, "We've seen it and we're definitely investigating PSP Go. We've got our Singapore office, which does the majority of our handheld titles, and they're playing with it right now, seeing what we can do."

Point-and-clicks on my iPhone would be a megaton.

That craft pack with updated models and whatnot makes XW:A quite pretty. The fonts go kinda nuts on some video cards though.

I have the TIE Fighter Total Covnersion sitting around on my drive somewhere. I never got to play it, as it requires you to have the original TF discs or something...and those are long gone.
