I'm running Ubuntu (Ibex), and having just got a shiny new HP C4580 printer with wireless capabilities, I'd love to get my new toy working.
Printing via USB worked right away (yay for Linux), but thats not cool enough.
How the fuck do I get this thing working wirelessly? When I bought it I thought it might be as simple as telling my printer what the network name and password are.
edit: I found my printers IP address, 192.168.3.198, and when I type it into Firefox I get a page load error network has timed out.

I have Jaunty with an older HP 6980 (printing over home wi-fi network), and all I did was add it through the Printers option under System, Administration.

How do I "go through" hp-setup? I typed it into terminal and got
HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 2.8.7)

Generally, when it says "soandso not installed," it means to install it. You can run it in the console ("interactive mode" is fancy UNIX-speak for command line) as root if you want, but GUIs are more fun. Start by running sudo apt-get install pyqt and try running the setup program again.
Perhaps that isn't my printers ip address (ie, "device not found"). How can I find this out? The Wireless network Test Report the printer prints lists ip as "not applicable".

Hmm... I can't remember how to get into the router (I'm thinking linksys), but if you do that, it might list devices that it's picking up. I'm not sure about that, though. Worth a shot, anyway.
It's an Asus router, and I've already explored around in there and it doesn't seem to be picking the printer up.
I'll futz some more.

Do you have another computer that will print wireless to that printer?
Here's my HP setup menu, gotten through by going to the 'hp.XXXX/local' address; it should be printed in the network manual. Listed is the printer's IP.

Think I may have needed the Host path - should be something like 'http://hp.XXXXXX/local'

Be sure to run the setup program with sudo.
