[Daybreakers] Willem Dafoe with a Crossbow, Sam Neil with Fangs
Looks pretty awesome, starring Ethan Hawke, Sam Neil and Willem Dafoe.
The song in the trailer is placebos cover of "Running Up that Hill"
Hopefully this will bring vampires back to their rightful place of kicking arse but that's yet to be seen.
I thing this is being made by the same guys who made Undead, an Aussie zombie flick from a few years back with a low budget and a lot of interesting moments.
The resources allegory looks a little heavy, as long as they don't lay it on too thick its should be an enjoyable film and a grizzled Willem Dafoe is hard to fuck up
Looks awesome, my only confusion was that the trailer seemed to depict the "guys with the crossbows" as humans (the shot of dafoe in the sunlight, the "not like you no more", the battle near the convoy) yet the synposis describes them as rebel vampires sheltering the last human...
Bit confused really as to why vampires would want to re-build the human race

Those were the last humans. Ethan Hawke is part of the vampire resistance.
They want to keep those humans alive to breed sustainable food sources, I'd guess. While the rest of their society are trying to hunt and kill them to meet the momentary need.
Theres some mention of when the last human goes so to goes any shred of humanity the vampires have. I'd imagine some don't appreciate immortality that much and others remember what they were before and wouldn't want to drive that into extinction.
I mean I saw an old lady vampire there. Would you really want to live forever that way?
Damn, a vampire-sci fi-apocolypse flick. It's like all my favorite genres had a baby. Actually, needs more zombies.
This. Vampires versus zombies versus humans would basically be the AVP of our time. Which I guess means that all movies based on the concept would be crimes against cinema.

Seriously though, someone needs to get on this.
I read some fan fiction based on this, with the Zombies being some kind of mutant vampire strain, the vampires offering sanctuary to human survivors on a boat to act as cattle for them. It had vampires tearing zombies heads off with their hands and stuff.
Off topic but I also read one about the Devil training a young girl to be a zombie killer, he finds her after the zombies have risen while he walks around (in a human host) killing zombies for fun whilst lamenting about how humans blamed him for the plauge but he loved humans and playing with our emotions and souls and that zombies were souless and boring, so he trains this girl and decides to nuture a new human race to play with.

Go Go Oil Allegory.
Ethan also mentions a cure, and Dafoe is clearly a vampire who has been cured. But they still mention a cast member as being the last human...
Human blood is what keeps vampires from going feral (that bat-thing shown in the clip). Problem is that humans are damn near extinct at this point and there is no substitute that keeps vamps from going feral.
A cure for vampirism is found (notice the change in Ethan's eyes). So then there's going to be conflict over hushing that up versus distributing it to everyone. Humanity versus Immortality, etc.
If the action is up to snuff, it could be enjoyable.
This looks promising. It'll be a nice (much needed) change of pace from the Underworld style of Vampire action movie. I'm getting a little tired of the "look at how cool, dark, and edgy I am" vampire.
